Join us on August 5th at 6:00PM EST for:
“Maximizing Safety and Performance During Intense Exercise In The Heat - Considerations For Rugby."

Presented by our KEYNOTE speaker Douglas Casa, PhD, ATC, FACSM, Chief Executive Officer of the Korey Stringer Institute and Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor of Kinesiology at the College of Agriculture, Health, & Natural Resources UConn.

Dr. Casa is well-versed in researching and treating heat-related injuries. He served on the International Olympic Committee’s Adverse Weather Impact Expert Group for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games to address anticipated heat. Additionally, he wrote multiple books on sports performance and safety, including his latest book, Elite Soccer Players: Maximizing Performance and Safety. As a licensed athletic trainer, he treated 425 cases of exertional heat stroke, earning him induction into the NATA Hall of Fame in 2024.

In his presentation, Dr. Casa will share his knowledge of the safety measures and the effects of performance when exercising in extreme heat conditions.

Presented by Dr. Gary Liguori, Ph.D., FACSM, the Chancellor and Dean Professor, Kinesiology at Penn State University Abington Penn State Abington

Dr. Liguori is also a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and serves on numerous boards and national organizations including on the board of directors of the American Association on Health and Disability. In his talk, Dr. Liguori will explore the relationship between public health and sports medicine and how both of these fields can benefit each other.

“Morphology and Knee Joint Kinetics: Implications for Osteoarthritis Development”

Presented by Georgia Monique Mokha, PhD, ATC, LAT, CPSS, CSCS, a Professor of Exercise and Sport Science in the Department of Health and Human Performance at the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine Nova Southeastern University

Dr. Mokha also conducts research on sport injury and biomechanics, publishing papers on performance and running biomechanics in American-style football. In her talk, Dr. Mokha will explore how an athlete’s build and movement forces combine to cause knee-joint wear and premature arthritis.

“When the ACL Isn’t Enough: Other Considerations in ACL Reconstruction”

Presented by Dr. Lasun O. Oladeji, an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon and Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery University of Miami, Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine.

Dr. Oladeji has vast experience in treating complex knee and shoulder injuries, focusing on cartilage restoration, joint preservation, and robotic partial knee replacement. In his talk, Dr. Oladeji will explain the other factors that needed to be considered when conducting ACL surgery and will bring in his knowledge on the meniscus and knee cartilage reconstruction and repair.

Dr. May has experience treating contact injuries from his time serving as a Navy captain and being the director of the primary care sports medicine fellowship at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, California. Dr. Robinson will present his talk on “The Sports Medicine Experience: From High School to the Profession and Everything in Between.”

As a Primary Sports Medicine Physician and the team physician for the New York Liberty professional basketball team, Dr. Robinson has experience treating athletes on all levels–from high school, to college, and to the professional stage. In his lecture, Dr. Robinson will share his insight and his journey to becoming a sports medicine physician.

Thank you so much to our third speaker, Dr. Maria E. Santiago Rodriguez, PhD, Associate Professor at Ana G. Méndez University, for her presentation, “Understanding and Addressing 24-Hour Movement Behavior Disparities in Latina Adolescents" 🔥🏃

Her lecture explored the unique movement behavior disparities affecting Latina adolescents. Drawing on the 24-Hour Movement Behavior Framework, Dr. Santiago Rodriguez examined differences in physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep patterns, highlighting the factors that contribute to these health disparities among Latina youth.

We are so grateful for her insight in this area and her overview of her designed intervention, Wellness & Health Enhancing Program for Adolescents (WEPA)!

We are so grateful for Dr. Nailah Coleman, , FAAP, FACSM for taking the time to present her lecture, “Youth Sports at a Crossroads: Performance, Pressure, and the Pediatrician’s Role,” on ! 🩺🏊‍♀️

Dr. Coleman is an Associate Professor at the George Washington University and a Sports Medicine Pediatrician at Children’s National Hospital. In her talk, she walked us through a case of a young athlete and explained the factors that lead to burnout in high-performing athletes.
