Open Hands Legal Services, Inc. Open Hands Legal Services brings free legal aid to soup kitchens and shelters across New York City.

Recognizing that the law is one of the most powerful anti-poverty tools available, we put it in the hands of New York's most vulnerable by conducting mobile legal aid desks and “Know Your Rights” seminars at soup kitchens and shelters across New York City. We mobilize volunteer attorneys to conduct intake and identify and remove the barriers to success that are legal in nature. Using the law, we can help the homeless obtain housing, the unemployed obtain a fair chance to work, re-entering citizens to move beyond crippling debt and more.

Join us this Saturday, October 10th, from 9:00–11:00 AM at The Father's Heart Ministries for our monthly Legal Aid Desk.

Our volunteer attorneys and legal advocates are available to listen, answer questions, and provide guidance on a variety of civil legal issues—all at no cost.

Sometimes the hardest part of faith is waiting. Yet even in the waiting, God is at work. He hears our cries, sees our needs, and reminds us that we are never forgotten. Many of our clients come to us in difficult and uncertain seasons, waiting for answers and hoping for a way forward. May we continue to stand alongside them with compassion, offering practical help while trusting that God hears their cries and is at work in their lives.

Two Legal Aid Desks. Twelve clients. One shared mission: making justice more accessible.

This week, Open Hands Legal Services was at work alongside City Relief and The Bowery Mission – Tribeca Campus, meeting with 12 individuals facing difficult legal situations.

Clients came seeking help with issues including:
• Landlord and rental disputes
• Consumer fraud
• Surrogate’s Court paperwork and filings
• Bankruptcy
• Expungement

Behind every legal issue is a person who needs someone to listen, explain their options, and help them take the next step.

At our Legal Aid Desk, we see firsthand the struggles that can arise when people face legal challenges without knowing where to turn. Our clients come seeking help, guidance, and hope.

Through the dedication of our staff and volunteers, we seek to stand alongside those in need, helping them navigate challenges and pursue justice. Because justice should not depend on a person's ability to afford an attorney.
