On June 4, we celebrated the official opening of the Kate Rothko Center for Recovery — a $32 million, 60-bed residential treatment facility on Wards Island built specifically for adult men in early recovery from opioid use disorder.

This facility has been years in the making. It integrates Medication for Addiction Treatment with withdrawal and stabilization services, individual counseling, group therapy, and individualized medical and psycho-social support — all under one roof, in a space designed with residents at the center.

We are grateful to Governor Kathy Hochul, NYS OASAS, DASNY - Dormitory Authority of the State of New York , and the Rothko family for making this possible. And we are proud to carry the name of Kate Rothko Prizel, MD — a physician, an advocate, and a partner in this work.

The building has been open since January. Sixty men are already inside, doing the hard work of recovery. We couldn't be more honored to be part of their journey.

What does Mother's Day look like when you've fought your way back from addiction, homelessness, and trauma?

For the women at Odyssey House, it looks like hope.

Monica Morales sat down with Gretchen Kleinsmith, Senior Director of Residential Programs at Odyssey House, to discuss the extraordinary work being done to support mothers rebuilding their lives. From individualized treatment and trauma counseling to vocational support and housing — Odyssey House makes sure no mother has to choose between getting help and keeping her family together.

Watch the full interview and share it with someone who needs to see it.

At our Mother's Day Celebration, we gathered to celebrate the incredible moms in recovery who inspire us every single day — and to remind ourselves why this work matters.

For so many of the moms we serve, the road to recovery means not just healing themselves, but fighting to stay present for their children. Events like this one help us shine a light on their courage and build the community of support they deserve.

Congratulations to our honorees, Julia Watt-Rosenfeld and Patricia Lincourt — your dedication to our community is an inspiration to us all.

Thank you to our generous sponsors and supporters, whose commitment makes it possible for Odyssey House to serve the moms and families who need us most.

Federal drug policy is changing — and that's worth a conversation. Odyssey House President and CEO Dr. Peter Provet weighs in on what recent reforms mean, and what they don't. Reform is welcome. But sound policy has to be honest about the risks, especially for young people and those vulnerable to dependence. Read his letter in the New York Times. https://odysseyhousenyc.org/shifts-in-drug-policy/

Art can be a powerful pathway to healing. 🎨

At Odyssey House, our Expressive Arts Studio empowers individuals in recovery to channel emotion into creative expression — from painting to sculpture. We’re proud that this vital program was recently featured by Ocula, a leading global platform for modern and contemporary art.
