Today, we’re spotlighting Delina from Nepal Scouts , a Gender Equality Badge (GEB) Youth Ambassador who is using the badge to spark conversations and action among young people.

For Delina, the GEB became a tool to bring gender equality to life. At a Gender Equality Workshop in Koshi Province, Nepal, she brought together 54 girls, boys and young leaders from Scout groups across the province. Through interactive activities from the Gender Equality Challenge Badge, participants explored gender roles, stereotypes, equal opportunities, leadership, rights and participation.

What stood out to Delina was seeing participants begin to question assumptions they had previously considered “normal”, from expectations around household responsibilities to who can lead and how girls and boys are expected to behave.

The experience also showed her that gender equality starts with conversation, but cannot end there. Delina is now committed to taking the GEB beyond one workshop, supporting young people and Scout leaders to continue these conversations and turn them into action in their own communities.

Through the Gender Equality Badge, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts can explore gender equality, challenge stereotypes and take action towards more equal communities.

As Delina puts it: “Your gender should never decide how far you can dream, lead or go. Know your rights, challenge stereotypes and use your voice to create a more equal world.”
