HEAF Where college is the rule.

HEAF is a comprehensive supplemental education and youth development organization that helps motivated students develop the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, and personal resiliency they need to succeed in school, career and life.

After 37 years of serving New York City youth, HEAF will be closing at the end of October. This difficult decision was made by our Board after reviewing the organization’s financial position. Despite significant efforts, cash flow was not coming in fast enough to sustain operations at the level of quality our students deserve.

Our immediate priorities are to support students and families through this transition — providing resources and referrals to other programs — meet our commitments responsibly, care for our staff, and steward all remaining resources with transparency and integrity.

To our students and families, supporters, volunteers, alumni, partners, and friends — thank you. Your trust, commitment, and belief in HEAF have shaped thousands of futures. Our impact lives on through the young people and alumni who carry this legacy forward.

Once a HEAFer, always a HEAFer.

Still glowing from last Thursday. ✨

Thank you to everyone who joined us to Toast the Future and celebrate our incredible Class of 2026.
Community, joy, and purpose — all in one night.

Tonight at Toasting the Future, you’ll hear directly from Darnell Yates II — HEAF senior, published author, National Honor Society scholar, and soon‑to‑be North Carolina A&T State University Aggie on the Pre‑Optometry track.

Darnell’s story is one of growth, courage, and finding his voice — and tonight, he’ll share that voice with all of us.

Meet Jasmine — HEAF senior, future Social Worker, and newly awarded scholarship recipient! She’s heading to Binghamton University this fall, supported by the H&N Insurance & Financial Service Scholarship and the Canon Frederick Boyd Williams Scholarship.

Tonight at Toasting the Future, we’re celebrating students just like Jasmine — young people whose talent, drive, and leadership deserve every opportunity.

Last week’s visit to Alliance Bernstein was a milestone moment for our Industry Immersion students!

As part of their “You’re Hired” Capstone, students shared their Career Portfolios, resumes, synergy maps, and 60‑second pitches — all while fielding questions from three AB volunteers who served as our hiring managers. Their feedback, encouragement, and real‑world insight made the experience unforgettable.

Huge congratulations to our three top presenters, and a big thank‑you to AllianceBernstein for welcoming our students and supporting their growth.

Proud of this group and all the work they put in.

What a beautiful day we shared this past Saturday at the 3rd Annual Harlem Community Wellness Field Day! 🌿😊✨

Thank you for showing up, showing love, and celebrating with us.

From field games and basketball to music, dancing, healing spaces, creative expression, and hands‑on workshops, the day was filled with joy, connection, and community. We loved seeing you create bliss bowls, build bouquets, make art, move your bodies, and take time to recharge.

We hope you left with new connections, a sense of renewal, and a few resources to support your wellness journey. 🩷

Huge shoutout to Terrence Henry () for beautifully capturing the day.

Deep gratitude to the students, families, volunteers, and staff from HEAF, The Boys & Girls Club of Harlem, and STREETSQUASH — your energy made this event possible.

Thank you to our guest speakers and performers: Shaba Keys, Darializa Avila Chevalier, Courtney Reynolds, DJ TYNCE, and Chrybaby Cozie for sharing your wisdom, talent, and positive vibes.

And to our incredible facilitators and vendors — Common Threads, Healed By Paris, Ray of Bliss, Creative Netwerk , Good Morning Central Park, UnitedHealthcare, Kids Passport to Adventure, Free Hunger NYC, Nuasin Next Generation Charter School, and Sisulu Walker Charter School — thank you for bringing joy, movement, and resources into the space.

Finally, a huge thank you to our generous sponsors: Target, Raising Cane's, Liberty Coke, Limestone Advisory Group, and West Harlem Development Corporation. Your partnership made this event possible.

With love and deep gratitude. 🌿
