We are saddened, upset, frustrated and dismayed to add Tyre Nichols to the long list of African Americans who have died from brutal and violent encounters with police officers, who are entrusted to protect and serve our communities. When will these senseless tragedies end? On this first day of Black History Month, AABANY reaffirms its solidarity and allyship with the African American community. We stand together in the ongoing struggle for justice until systemic racism no longer infects our society. Black Lives Matter.

The Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) is excited to hold its 34th Anniversary Annual Dinner during Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Cipriani Wall Street.

The theme for the 2023 Annual Dinner and the AABANY 2024 fiscal year is “Embracing Wellness and Well-Being: Strengthening the Legal Profession by Investing in Ourselves.” Prioritizing wellness and well-being is critical, especially with the pandemic, anti-Asian hate and stress of life and the legal profession.

To celebrate this year's Veterans Day, AABANY's & Affairs Committee, led by UnitedStates Navy veterans, Amos Kim of BakerHostetler and D**g Joo Lee, AUSA at the United States Attorneys'​ Offices, DNJ, along with the Apala NJ Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association of New Jersey (APALA-NJ) hosted a event at Walsh Pizzi O'Reilly Falanga LLP. Thank you to all the guests and especially our honoree of the evening, US Army Veteran and U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi of the District of New Jersey. Also in attendance were U.S. Magistrate Judges Edward S. Kiel, Espinosa, and Mark Falk (ret.).

On October 28, 2021, AABANY’s Membership Committee, together with the Career Placement Committee and IP Committee, hosted the first annual Founders’ Day at Broadridge’s New York office in midtown Manhattan. Surrounded by dramatic views of the New York skyline, the event celebrated AABANY’s thirty-second year as an association serving AAPI legal professionals and the AAPI community. This celebration honors the founders who helped form AABANY in 1989. Hon. Doris Ling Cohan, Hon. Marilyn Go, Sylvia Chin and Rocky Chin joined the party as honorees. Approximately 50 members and friends gathered together to connect and re-connect over food and drinks. President Terry Shen was joined by many Board members and Committee Chairs for the occasion. Towards the end of the party, the Governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, made a special appearance and gave remarks commending the achievements of AABANY over the past three decades, including fighting Asian hate and serving the AAPI community. As the first female Governor of New York state, she encouraged more women to enter public service.
