😃 Meet Amy Carleton , Programs Manager for the North American Hub!
Amy (User:Amyc29) has joined the North American Hub as Programs Manager. Amy is a writer, educator, editor, and public-humanities program designer, and she has built Wikimedia initiatives in both educational and cultural settings. Her work centers on community engagement, program development, partnerships, capacity building, and widening access to free knowledge.
🌎️ The Hub is a recently launched regional support and coordination structure for Wikimedia communities, affiliates, user groups, and organizers across Canada, the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, and the United States. It received initial funding from the Wikimedia Foundation in April 2026, is fiscally sponsored by Wikimedia Canada, and operates in partnership with Wikimedia New York City. The aim of the initiative is to make training, administrative resources, and expertise easier for Wikimedia communities across the region to reach.
👩💼 As Programs Manager, Amy coordinates the Hub's programs and community-facing activities, supports regional communications, and serves as a point of contact for Wikimedians throughout North America. She will be running surveys, listening sessions, and community calls to hear what communities need.

For about two decades, I have been an active participant in the Wikimedia community: as an educator (I teach at MIT and, to date, my students have contributed more than one million words to the encyclopedia!), as a researcher and practitioner (I have published research articles and have presented about Wikipedia at numerous academic conferences), and as a “civilian” community organizer of edit-a-thons and other public-facing GLAM events (my project, “Community of Sol: Writing Black Music History,” has trained dozens of new editors to augment and diversify coverage on Wikipedia pertaining to artists, institutions, and creative work).
In my role as North American Hub Project Manager, I look forward to working with Wikimedia communities and contributors across the region by helping to streamline access to resources, training, knowledge, expertise, and – of course – connections to other contributors!
