MEANS Collective MEANS - Promoting peace and social justice through alternative arts.

Forward. Direct. We play the chords better. We Feel. Smith.

“Those who have suffered understand suffering and therefore extend their hand.” - Patti Smith

MEANS is Movement. We focus on ongoing human rights issues: women’s rights, worker’s rights, forced labor, human trafficking, child soldiering/ marriage/prostitution, et al. Adamant support for those who are subjugated, wherever they are. MEANS provides media platforms to profile these matters and campai

gns, as well as those creatives who give a damn. Think peace and social justice through alternative arts. And that's where things get interesting...

MEANS is the Resolute - Les Guerriers Implacable. We highlight human rights efforts born of tenacious minds and fierce resolve. MEANS is community at the edges: artists, outliers, gypsies, punks, dreamers, subversives, and general troublemakers. Left field for sure, but frankly our voice is a better voice. We’re better with a brush. "Any person who aspires, presumes, or feels the calling to be an artist has a built-in sense of duty.” That’s another one from P. We like her. She doesn't fit into elevator pitches either. This quote says it. Artists are explorers of the human condition - of humanity. And who better to represent? Feel something? Do something! And why the subjugated? Why these issues? Because the opportunity to live through art is a testament to our privileged and all too infrequent liberty. And knowing this, it is unacceptable that others are denied even the most basic liberties: those of expression, of self determination, of peace. These are the stories to be told. And MEANS is how we tell them. We roll up our sleeves. We go to work.

For this March, Friends of Taghyeer Movement is highlighting Taghyeer (Change) Palestine’s (WLP). This week we focus on the northern chapter of the WLP including activists on the ground in Nablus.

At its outset in 2019, the WLP here initiated the Nablus Park Beautification project where 150 activists spent a day in Nablus Park cleaning up, trimming the trees, and engaging in dialogue with each other about social responsibility. By doing this, Taghyeer sought to highlight social problems and encourage local authorities and governments to take responsibility along with the activists. At Nablus Park, Taghyeer women were able to hand a list of needs regarding the park directly to the mayor, who promised to take action.

By participating in WLP, these women have been able to act as as agents for social change and cooperative action among Palestinians. Such community contributions exemplify the Taghyeer (Change) Palestinian National Nonviolence Movement.
