As we prepare for our upcoming webinar in Our Food is Medicine series, we revisited our first webinar we had last year, “Who Holds Power in the Business Case for Food as Medicine?” where we examined where power lies in the nascent food as medicine industry. Here are just a few snippets from our conversation.
We shared powerful insights and asked the critical questions:
-What role do contracts play and how do we hold accountable the entities that are shaping the FIM industry, when there’s a general lack of knowledge around harms holders of power are able to do the food system?
- If we’ve been underpaying for food for a long time and we’re just beginning to reconcile the true costs, from poor health to poor environmental impacts on soil, air and water, and poor wages for food system workers, why are food as medicine reimbursement rates so low?
- What are the opportunities that exist to support our farmers, growers and CBOs through the dollars that are moving through food is medicine interventions?
- How do we enable pathways for everyone to do well and position communities to be part of the solution, rather than the problem?
At the end of the day, we’re grateful to be in community with each other and despite the challenges and red tape, we believe a more equitable value chain is worth fighting for.
And we’re barely scratching the surface. Join us for our upcoming discussion, “Can Transformation Happen at the Transaction?” on Thursday, May 28th from 1pm-2:30pm. Register today! (Link in Bio)
