Election Day is November 3, 2026. Make a plan to vote!

The decisions made by our elected officials shape our communities, including how New York approaches substance use, prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and public health.

Voting is an opportunity to make your voice heard on the issues that matter to you. Before Election Day, take a moment to check your voter registration, learn about the candidates and issues on your ballot, and make a plan to cast your vote.

Not registered yet? New York’s voter registration deadline is October 24, 2026. Check your registration status, and learn about your voting options.

Your voice matters. Your vote is yours. Make it count.

🏀 Basketball season is upon us!

NYC POP wants to take this time to highlight how prevention lives in everything. It’s in the everyday choices and relationships that help us stay healthy, connected, and resilient.

Building healthy coping skills. Having honest conversations. Knowing who we can turn to. Asking for help when we need it. Having supportive family, trusted adults, and a sense of belonging can all play an important role in prevention.

And the research backs it up: in a national CDC survey, high school students who reported feeling connected at school had a lower prevalence of lifetime prescription opioid misuse—9.6% compared with 16.8% among students who did not report feeling connected.

Prevention isn’t about being perfect. It’s about learning, adapting, building resilience, and knowing you don’t have to do it alone.

Last summer, the MTA board very quietly overturned the ban on alcohol advertising on Public Transportation. We are working with a citywide workgroup to try to get the ban reinstated. Please use the QR code to let us know where and when you see alcohol ads on the MTA. Thank you,

Domestic Violence Awareness Month reminds us that we all have a role to play. Learn the warning signs. Check in on loved ones. Support local shelters. Speak up against abuse. Small actions create big change... and they can save lives.

This is what structural inequity looks like, not always loud, but built into where clinics are sited, who gets prescribing access, and who has to rearrange their whole life just to get care.
Recovery should never depend on your zip code. Equitable treatment access is a social justice issue.

📍 Support policies expanding prescriber access in underserved areas

Looking for trusted cannabis education resources for your community?

This past summer NYC POP & The PRC hosted a networking event where OCM presented- Cannabis Honestly , a new statewide education campaign featuring free educational materials, conversation tools, and resources designed to support honest conversations about cannabis.

Young people have questions. They deserve real answers. This campaign was built directly from conversations with New Yorkers. Let’s talk about it! Visit cannabishonestly.org

✨ National Hispanic Heritage Month is here! (September 15 – October 15) ✨

This month, we celebrate the countless ways Hispanic and Latin communities have enriched our world through leadership, advocacy, the arts, innovation, and traditions that bring us together.

We’re also honoring the Hispanic Trail Blazers who used their voices and leadership to create lasting change including Dolores Huerta, Emma Tenayuca, and Luisa Moreno. Their stories remind us of the power of community, courage, and collective action.

Learning about their lives and contributions is more than looking back — it’s an opportunity to build understanding, celebrate heritage, and recognize the many ways Hispanic communities continue to shape our world today.

This month, let’s celebrate the voices, stories, and traditions that connect us all. 🌎✨

Youth substance use isn't just about individual choices and neither is prevention.
Last year, we explored the why: the systems, pressures, and environments shaping youth substance use — discrimination, mental health struggles, peer pressure, family dynamics, and more.
This year, we're moving forward. Join us the evening of Wednesday, November 18th for a moderated panel discussion exploring What Works: Actionable Solutions from Our Communities.
