The video of Julia Appel’s panel talk at October 2025’s The Belonging Forum, entitled “Safe Havens – Faith, Security and the Nurturing of Community,” is now available online.

As The Belonging Forum explains in their introduction to the video, safety and security are at the heart of belonging, and the panel explored how communities create spaces of trust, where people feel free to be themselves, to care for one another, and to imagine a shared future.

Panelists considered how spiritual traditions and practices can anchor resilience, offer sanctuary, and foster deeper connection across divides. Rabbi Appel’s comments start at the forty-minute mark.

Fifty years in, we took a step back and asked ourselves: how do we want to show up in the world for the next fifty?

Over the past year and a half, we sat with that question, and through deep conversations with Clal faculty, reflected on who we are, what drives our work, and recommitted to telling Clal's story with more clarity and intention to better reflect the depth and breadth of our work.
