June is PTSD Awareness Month

For many people, healing does not begin with having the right words. It begins with feeling safe enough to pause, to breathe, and to move at a pace that feels manageable.

Trauma can affect how a person experiences their body, relationships, and surroundings. Sometimes the impact is visible. Sometimes it is quiet and carried privately.

Art-making can offer a gentle place to begin. A color, shape, image, or texture may help express something that is difficult to explain. It may also offer a small sense of comfort, grounding, or connection.

There is no single way to heal. Small moments of ease matter, too✨

Art in the Park with NYATA 🌿🎨

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Art in the Park on May 3rd!

Together, we gathered outdoors to create, reflect, and connect through art-making in community. Surrounded by nature, participants explored creativity in an open and grounding space, reminding us how art can help us slow down, notice our surroundings, and be present with ourselves and one another 🌎

We are grateful for everyone who brought their curiosity, creativity, and presence to this event. Thank you for making this gathering meaningful 💚

Stay connected with NYATA for more opportunities to create, learn, and build community through art therapy.

🗽In New York, art therapists practice under the title Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT). Art therapy is a regulated mental health profession with specific education, supervised training, and licensure requirements. But many people still do not fully understand what an LCAT is or why that matters.

highlights that advocacy helps raise public awareness, protect the profession, and make services more accessible. Public understanding is part of that advocacy. The more people know about art therapy and the training behind it, the better they can recognize qualified care and the value of the profession. We’ll include the AATA State Advocacy link in our profile for those who want to learn more.
