On September 11, 2001, FDNY Firefighter Calixto “Charlie” Anaya Jr. made the ultimate sacrifice while saving others at the World Trade Center. Before joining the FDNY, Anaya served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Firefighter Anaya was a member of Engine 4, one of the first companies to respond to the World Trade Center on September 11th. At just 35 years old, Firefighter Anaya left behind his wife, Marie, and their three children, Kristina Marie, Brandon, and Rebecca. Click the link to hear more about Marie’s story. 25 years ago, Lisa Jordan lost her hero, FDNY Firefighter Andrew Jordan, on September 11, 2001. Firefighter Jordan was assigned to Ladder Company 132 in Brooklyn. At just 36 years old, he left behind four children with his wife, Lisa: Andrew Jr., Matthew, Kelsey, and Sean, who was born September 26, 2001. Firefighter Jordan never got the chance to meet his youngest child, Sean. Click the link to learn more about their family's story. On September 11th, our mission was honored on the Nasdaq Tower in Times Square, a powerful tribute to the first responder heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice and the families they left behind 25 years ago.

Since 1985, we have stood beside the families of FDNY Firefighters, FDNY EMTs, NYPD Police Officers, and PAPD Police Officers killed in the line of duty, providing financial assistance and a lasting network of support, including the families who lost their first responder heroes on September 11, 2001. On This Day, 25 Years Ago: Just weeks after September 11, 2001, Answer the Call placed this urgent appeal in the Village Voice, asking New Yorkers to help support the families of fallen first responders killed in the line of duty during an unimaginable time.

Twenty-five years later, the urgency has changed, but our mission has not. We remain committed to standing beside the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11th, and all of the families we’ve served since 1985.
