CASES is proud to participate in the United Justice Coalition Summit in New York City on Saturday, October 17, 2026, bringing together more than 1,000 leaders, advocates, experts, organizations, and community members committed to advancing justice.

Now in its fourth year, the UJC Summit creates a space for powerful conversations and meaningful connections centered on identifying actionable solutions to challenges within our criminal legal system. Through panel discussions, spotlight conversations, and opportunities to connect with organizations from across the country, attendees will gain greater insight into the issues impacting communities and concrete ways to help drive change.

For our newest program highlight, we spoke to Fatmata "Tima" Turay, the Team Leader on CASES Nathaniel Community Success (NCS) team. NCS is an alternative to incarceration program that provides therapeutic services to adults with mental health and substance use treatment needs. The program also supports connections to a wide range of resources including housing, benefits, education, employment, and more.

This highlight specifically features a new approach to engagement with NCS: group therapy. With five weekly groups focused on topics such as anger management, emotional regulation, art therapy, wellness, and substance use recovery, NCS forges authentic connections around shared experiences and interests that promote growth.

Team Leader: This leader will oversee the clinical and administrative operations of one of CASES' Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams, delivering comprehensive services to individuals who have mental health and substance use treatment needs.

Clinical Criminal Legal Specialist: As part of CASES' Nathaniel Community Success (NCS) alternative to incarceration program, this specialist will deliver ongoing updates to the court regarding NCS participants’ progress and will communicate information from the court to their NCS teammates and the participants.

This week, CASES is proud to highlight Charisma Gonzalez, a Youth Engagement Specialist working with our Planning Alternatives & Creating Community (PACC) program. PACC provides mentorship, paid work experience, and enrichment activities to young people involved in the criminal legal system.

As a Youth Engagement Specialist, Charisma supports PACC participants to complete their court requirements while working towards their personal goals--whether that's obtaining employment, applying for housing, or starting therapy. Drawing on her own experience with the criminal legal system, Charisma builds strong connections with her participants so she can support them to achieve stability, independence, and success.

Our new Downtown Brooklyn office is officially open!

Yesterday, we cut the ribbon on a brand new space built to help New Yorkers heal, grow and succeed. Last year, CASES served more than 2,000 Brooklyn residents and more than 14,000 New Yorkers through alternatives to incarceration, mental health & employment programs.

This expanded office brings all of our Brooklyn programs together to foster collaboration, providing more client rooms, group rooms and classrooms. It will also be home to a new phlebotomy certification track in our CRED employment program, opening career pathways in health care, one of New York’s fastest growing industries.

In honor of International Overdose Awareness Day, CASES is highlighting Rashida Smith, an Overdose Prevention Coordinator and Peer Specialist on our Manhattan Supervised Release Program (MSRP) team.

In addition to her work with MSRP, Rashida is the founder of the Save a Life Crew—a program providing participants with valuable overdose education and resources that they can use in their communities. Combining her personal experience with 9+ years of substance use treatment work, Rashida approaches recovery with both expertise and compassion.
