The Armenian Bar Association strongly condemns the hateful anti-Armenian flyers found near Glenoaks Elementary School. Armenian American children—like all students—deserve to arrive at school feeling safe, welcomed, and supported, not confronted with material attacking their identity.

We call for a thorough and expeditious investigation and appreciate the Glendale Police Department’s efforts to identify those responsible. We also urge school officials to exercise heightened diligence in ensuring that the campus remains a place of learning, safety, and respect—not ethnic hostility.

Hate has no place in our schools or our community.

The Armenian Bar Association is honored to share reflections by California Supreme Court Justice Marvin Baxter (Ret.), an Honorary Member of the Armenian Bar, on the extraordinary life and legacy of Governor George Deukmejian.

Delivered at a June 2026 reception honoring Governor Deukmejian, Justice Baxter’s remarks highlight the Governor’s 28 years of public service, his historic impact on California’s judiciary, and the doors he opened for generations of Armenian Americans.

“He proved that an Armenian American could be elected to a major office in California.”

Justice Baxter reflected that Governor Deukmejian’s achievements “served as a catalyst for other Armenian Americans to garner the courage to pursue careers in public service” and “paved the way for other well-qualified Armenian Americans to follow his lead.”

The evening also marked the launch of the Governor George Deukmejian Scholarship Fund, which supports students who demonstrate integrity, leadership, and a commitment to public service.

As Justice Baxter shared, the Fund will “honor his outstanding contributions, express appreciation for all he did for us, and help implement his vision of assisting our future leaders in their pursuit of careers in public service.”
