It’s
Head to our YouTube channel to hear Katie Porter play Flâneur by David Glaser!

Flâneur (2020) for solo clarinet
Written at the request of Christopher Grymes, Flâneur is a work in five movements for solo clarinet. His challenge to
me was to follow the model of Stravinsky and write a set of pieces each of which would fit on one page. Full
disclosure – there was a bit of manipulation of staff size and layout in order to meet his requirement.
The movements are part etude and part character pieces in the tradition of French Baroque composers like François
Couperin and Marin Marais.
The titles, which give some indication of the affect of the movements are:
I – Twilight
II – Dragonfly
III – Le Flâneur
IV – Lagoon
V – Dawn

On this we’re releasing Allen Anderson’s solo cello work, “Collected Letters”

Click on the link below to go our YouTube channel and hear T. J. Borden play!

Collected Letters (1999)
The compositional conceit of Collected Letters (1999) is that the cellist is reading assorted letters written by X and in so doing, begins to fill in a picture of X. Like an actor, the cellist inhabits the character: the music isn’t transcription, these are the letters. Habits of language bridge the sections and carry connotations: seconds are earnest and
unstable, natural harmonics are sincere, irrational or distorted sounds are zealous and so forth. The interconnected sections comprise five letter types: Rash Proposal, Affections, Apologia, Communiqué, Post–(de)scriptions.
