Moroccan Americans in New York

Moroccan Americans in New York Marhaban! As Moroccans, living in a new place can be intimidating and challenging. Likewise, we all miss the sense of community, camaraderie, and family.

As a group of ambitious Moroccans our primary goal is to build a strong Moroccan community in the state of New York. This association is a benevolent, non-profit, non-political, and non-spiritual organization dedicated to play a crucial role in solidifying the relationship between its members by providing the necessary charitable, educational, cultural, and social help and support.

We Moroccans strongly condemn the recent remarks made by Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, particularly his reference to 55 African states, which is widely interpreted as implicit recognition of the Polisario Front. Morocco views such a position as a direct challenge to its sovereignty over Western Sahara and a clear departure from Senegal’s historically supportive stance.

We express deep concern that such statements risk damaging the strong and longstanding relationship between Morocco and Senegal. We call for clarity and a reaffirmation of Senegal’s traditional position, emphasizing that remarks of this nature are seen as provocative and could have negative consequences for bilateral ties and regional stability.

I had the honor of meeting Mr. Mehdi Bensaid for the first time when he served as head of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Moroccan Parliament. From that very first encounter, he stood out as an exceptionally intelligent, dynamic, and forward-thinking leader, with a clear and ambitious vision for Moroccans living abroad. His presence left a lasting and positive impression on every member of our community in New York who attended the meeting I had the privilege of organizing in his honor.

I later had the opportunity to meet Mr. Bensaid again at several events in New York, where he participated as a speaker and guest of honor. On each occasion, he demonstrated the same clarity of purpose, professionalism, and deep commitment to serving Morocco and its diaspora. His ability to engage, inspire, and connect with people from diverse backgrounds speaks volumes about his leadership qualities and integrity.

The recent campaign targeting Mr. Bensaid by certain political opponents is both unfounded and deeply regrettable. Such attacks do not reflect the truth; rather, they reveal discomfort with his growing influence and success. It is unfortunate that jealousy and political rivalry have driven some to resort to baseless accusations and harmful narratives. History has shown that these tactics often emerge when a leader is clearly on the right path.

Mr. Bensaid, you have the full support of Moroccans in the diaspora who recognize your sincerity, dedication, and service to our nation. We encourage you to continue your hard work and to remain steadfast in your mission to contribute to a thriving, forward-looking Morocco, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify and protect him.

🟡 The Confederation of African Football (CAF) continues to flounder in its own dysfunction, stubbornly refusing to seize the historic opportunity presented by Morocco to break away from its long-standing reputation for opaque, discredited, and controversial governance. This failure comes despite the resounding success of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which should have marked a turning point for African football. Instead, CAF once again exposed its institutional weakness through the laughable and inadequate sanctions imposed on the Senegalese national team, following conduct that gravely damaged the credibility of the competition and the image of African football worldwide—most notably during the AFCON final in Morocco.

That final descended into chaos under CAF’s watch, marked by serious and widely condemned irregularities. Many observers regarded the outcome as a blatant robbery of the title at the expense of the Moroccan national team, amid the disorderly withdrawal of the Senegalese side and the riots that followed. CAF’s inability—or unwillingness—to enforce discipline, ensure fairness, and protect the integrity of the tournament culminated in a scandal that resonated far beyond the continent, reinforcing global perceptions of mismanagement and impunity within African football’s governing body.

Official Statement by Moroccan Americans in New York

Moroccan Americans in New York strongly condemn the vile and offensive actions targeting His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the King of Morocco, by Hamas terrorist sympathizers during a demonstration in Paris, France.

Such disgraceful behavior is an attack on the dignity of the Moroccan people and an insult to the symbol of our unity, identity, and sovereignty. The King of Morocco is not only a political leader but also the embodiment of our shared values and heritage. Any disrespect towards His Majesty is a direct insult to all Moroccans worldwide.

We call on all Moroccan organizations across the United States, and particularly those in France and Europe, to take a firm stand against this barbaric act. We urge them to publicly denounce this offense and to work collectively to ensure that such shameful incidents are never repeated.

We will not remain silent in the face of this dishonor. Our loyalty to the nation and to our King is unwavering.
