The City Congregation for Humanistic Judaism New York’s home for secular and cultural Jews Humanistic Jews understand Judaism as the civilization, ethical values, and shared fate of the Jewish people.

Humanistic Judaism is a secular Jewish denomination that celebrates the centrality of human judgment and human power from a uniquely Jewish perspective. As humanists we believe that reason, rather than faith, is the source of truth, and that human intelligence and experience are capable of guiding our lives. As Jews we express these beliefs through the culture and practices that have evolved over centuries of Jewish history. Encompassing many languages and a vast body of literature, art, dance, music, and food, Judaism is much more than a set of religious beliefs and practices. It is the cumulative cultural and historical experience of the Jewish people.

We are thrilled to share that following an extensive search, we’ve selected Dr. Adam King Skrzynski as the new congregational leader/rabbinic intern for The City Congregation for Humanistic Judaism.

Adam brings a diverse and impressive range of experience to this part-time role. He grew up in a secular, multicultural family in the Detroit area, where his parents were married by Rabbi Sherwin W**e, the founder of our movement. Today, Adam is a physician and infectious disease specialist with an HIV care practice. He is a member of the executive committee of the Society for Humanistic Judaism and is pursuing rabbinic ordination through the International Institute for Secular Humanistic Judaism (IISHJ). He is also completing IISHJ’s Madrikh (leadership) program.

“Judaism has been the thread that has woven together every chapter of my life,” Adam writes, “from my family’s story to my work as a physician, to the way my wife and I are raising our three daughters, and ultimately to my calling to the rabbinate.”

Adam and his family will join us for this weekend’s Shabbat in the Park - and we hope you and your family will, too! We’ll gather in Central Park this Saturday, October 10, at 2:00 p.m. - visit the TCC website and RSVP to receive the exact location.

Welcome, Adam, from all of us at City Congregation!
