LOVE, HALLIE Foundation Inspired by the life of Hallie Geier, LOVE, HALLIE encourages young people to get involved in the ca Young people are natural philanthropists.

LOVE, HALLIE's inspiration comes from Hallie Geier, a young activist who volunteered at soup kitchens and senior centers, was passionate about all animals and saved $398 to help children affected by AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. Though Hallie passed away in 2004 at age eleven, LOVE, HALLIE continues to spread her message of kindness. They're filled with energy, optimism, compassion, and skills to co

ntribute to their neighborhoods and to people on the other side of the world. LOVE, HALLIE gives them help, ideas, and encouragement to make their unique contributions. In times when kids are inundated with cynical, hopeless, and angry messages from the media and from those around them, it's vital to provide them ways to care and to act. Through Hallie's Angels, LOVE, HALLIE offers young people the inspiration and practical tools they need to act with kindness and respect, and to work to improve their communities and the world.

20 years ago, the world lost Hallie Kassandra Geier, my sister, an eleven year-old reader, writer, dreamer, thinker, performer, and activist.

In the brief reverie that was her life, Hallie dreamed about and wrote about and fought for a better, more just world. She felt tormented by what she called her fierce wonderings, and in less than a decade, she wrote more than a thousand pieces describing her love for being alive and the connections she saw between all living things. She loved plants, animals, and people. She loved what she saw was possible when people take care of each other and tend to the world around them. Hallie was goofy and she loved to laugh and she wanted to use her voice to find a framework for a kind, compassionate, joyous planet Earth.

“I want to do something special this year, or even 20 years from now. I want to stand out sometime. That may be the reason I’ve decided to become a doctor when I’m grown. Most kids think that’s stupid, even you may be thinking that too as you read this. But, I want to help. Anything! I can help clean up my neighborhood, wash away mean words written on walls, so no one has to be reminded of the hate that lingers in this world. I’m getting off point. Anyway, I want to help the class community, or help raise money for starving people. I want to become more active in peacemaking, and helping people make the right choices. I want to help save endangered species. I want to discover the cure for cancer, and save lives. I just hope I get the chance.” -Hallie, age 10

We lost Hallie too soon, but 20 years later, through her writing, her voice is alive with us. LOVE, HALLIE was founded on the belief, exemplified by Hallie, that young people are smart and aware and want so much to make a difference. Too often, however, they feel overwhelmed by the grief of a world in which they are only just starting to find their place.

Young people need agency, tools, resources, connections, opportunities, and real space to get and stay involved in the causes they care about.

In our poignant 20th year as an organization, ChangeSpace is that space: a central gathering place for creativity, for community, and for the new ideas and energy our world so urgently needs. More than 20 partner organizations have joined us to create this home for the good fight at Culture Lab in Hallie’s hometown, Queens, where we pilot our ambitious programming and where, in 2024, young people will host our fifth Better World Festival.

We are a tiny, all-volunteer organization and, in the spirit of our founding, we try to do a lot with a little. Our work can only move forward with your support. Please give what you can here: https://lovehallie.networkforgood.com/projects/211848-2023-year-end-campaign

Thank you for the chance to do something special.

Love, M.J.

We are thrilled and honored to report on this Earth Day that the book "The Earth," written by Hallie Geier (at age six), illustrated by Casey Concelmo, and designed by Peter Chao, will soon be on the shelves of all 62 New York Public Library branches in Queens!

Here is a video version of Hallie's loving tribute to the beautiful world she believed in, read by Barbara Feldon with music performed by Hallie's Comets.

"I want to do something special. I just hope I get the chance." - Hallie Geier

Hallie expressed the sentiment so many of us feel as we head into another holiday season engulfed by a surge in the pandemic. It can often feel overwhelming to know where to go or what to do in a world inundated by pandemics, climate change, and profound inequality and injustice.

For the past six years, LOVE, HALLIE has been building a coalition of organizations (including Culture Lab LIC, Global Kids, Support Center, and Ticking Clock) and individuals to create ChangeSpace.

We envision ChangeSpace as a first-of-its-kind, central gathering place for people—especially young people—working towards positive change, taking meaningful action, and building a better world.

Despite the pandemic, our volunteer-led team put your contributions to last year’s campaign to good use: we’ve made significant progress, actually running a pilot program with Global Kids at Culture Lab and preparing for a strategic planning process that will culminate in Spring 2022 with our most ambitious Better World Festival, to be followed by a robust Summer 2022 program and, we expect, the launch of year-round programming.

Your contributions have been, and will continue to be, leveraged––our partners and volunteers contribute more than ten times the amount of each dollar contributed in in-kind goods.

This has been a long journey for all of us, but we are grateful that you’ve joined us & we look forward to continuing fighting the good fight together!

We need a better world.

In a year defined by division, loss, and challenge, please consider a gift to our year-end campaign to create a physical Better World Center, a first-of-its-kind home base for people and organizations to come together, get inspired, and take meaningful action in the good fight.

“Can 2020 get any worse?” We’ve all said or heard some version of that this year, with the pandemic, the economy, the climate, and the way we seem to be dividing into ever-hardening, conflicting tribes. With your support, LOVE, HALLIE has de...
