On the occasion of Peggy Guggenheim in London: The Making of a Collector, the exhibition celebrating the beginning of Peggy Guggenheim’s career as a collector between 1938–39, on May 8 the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, in collaboration with Works & Process, presented two legendary solos by Martha Graham, one of the most iconic dancers of the twentieth century.

The Martha Graham Dance Company, founded by Graham 1938 and evolving from the Dance Group she founded in 1926, performed two chorographic masterpieces: Lamentation (1930), with a score by Zoltán Kodály, and Ekstasis (1933), accompanied by original music by Lehman Engel.

On the occasion of the exhibition of South African artist Igshaan Adams’s work in the Museo Guggenheim Bilbao, Works & Process in collaboration with the Museum, organized two performances with South African based group Garage Dance Ensemble, and a discussion with Adams.

On May 4-5 in Bilbao, Spain, Garage Dance Ensemble shared their overpowering energy with audiences. The dancers have worked with Igshaan Adams in the creation of some of the works currently on display in the Museum. In his practice, moving bodies on ink applied linoleum floors covered with canvas leave traces of personal and collective memories. Adams collects them to highlight the connections between people and between individuals and the community.

Choreographed and Directed by: Byron Klassen
Technical director: Faroll Coetzee
Performers: Georgia Julies, Manon-Lee Saal, Keeanu Samuels, Druwayne Strauss

Activities organized with the collaboration of Works & Process, with the support of A4 Arts Foundation and Hill Art Foundation.

In CT? On April 23-24, Yale faculty member and renowned dancer and choreographer Emily Coates presents her new work and Works & Process commission, Tell Me Where It Comes From, sourcing from George Balanchine's early archives scattered throughout New England at Yale Schwarzman Center for FREE. To RSVP: https://gu.gg/4sUEqxt

Drawing on her background as a former member of New York City Ballet, Coates creates an unexpected portrait of Balanchine's legacy, working with collaborators Ain Gordon, Derek Lucci, Charles Burnham, Melvin Chen, Krista Smith, Harriet Jung and Reid Bartelme, and Henry Seth to collage far-flung remains: unanswered letters, old photographs and music exercises, lost ballets, early muses, and more.

The project was commissioned by Works & Process to a sold-out premiere at Guggenheim New York. The iterative development has included a Works & Process LaunchPAD residency at The Church (2025) in Sag Harbor, home to George Balanchine’s grave. The project continued to be supported with a Works & Process LaunchPAD residency at the Catskill Mountain Foundation in Hunter, New York where Jacques d’Amboise lived for seven decades. Additional developmental support was provided by the Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University, and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. Supported by the New England Foundation for the Arts Dance Fund. Tell Me Where It Comes From was created in part during a residency at the Pillow Lab at Jacob's Pillow. With additional support from the O’Donnell-Green Music and Dance Foundation.
