On our March "Voices of Play" panel discussion, Victoria talked about her experience working as a trauma therapist in Chicago.

She's seen firsthand how people are reaching out in person to meet with neighbors and make eye contact, during a time where ICE's presence is causing trauma, anger, fear, and withdrawal from activities.

Victoria's statement resonated with everyone on the call. Will you join us for the next panel discussion? Tell us what topics you'd like for us to cover in future calls.

During CWB's March panel discussion, David talked about his experience of seeing how tragedy and comedy are intertwined. He said, "The roughest project I ever did was in Haiti shortly after the earthquake. It was also the loudest laughter I've ever heard in my life."

David is referencing his CWB experience in Haiti, 2010. Laughter was shared with thousands of children and families at a time when it was needed most.

CWB artist Julie Moore has performed for children and families facing a crisis with CWB teams in Zimbabwe (here), Mexico, and Brazil.

At home in the US, Julie organizes mutual aid events and produces performances for children with the same energy and intention as their CWB work.

Julie was a special guest panelist during our March panel discussion "Clowning in Times of Crisis."

Syria 2025: We laughed and then we squeezed through 😄🕊️

On the road back from the south, the Syria team paused at a small shrine with a narrow passage said to welcome only pure hearts, one by one we stepped in, held our breath, and emerged smiling, taking it as a gentle sign for what’s ahead.

Proof that even on the long road, there’s always room for a little wonder—and a lot of laughter.

Syria 2025: We left, but the applause kept calling us back 🎭✨

What we thought was the final curtain turned into hugs, invitations, and “when are you coming back?”—whispers of a second tour, hopes for something more permanent, in a place where this kind of clown theatre is rare and so deeply welcomed.

Syria 2025: Against all odds, he found his way back to us ❤️‍🩹🤗

For months, shifting conditions and distance kept one of our own away while he studied in another governorate. Then, just before the final two days, he walked back into rehearsal like he had never left—and together, we gave six more shows.

Humor Month starts now 😄✨

And if Portland was any indication—we’re in very good hands.

Our 27th Annual Portland Benefit Show was a full house of joy, generosity, and seriously good clowning. This community showed up in a big way.

To our incredible volunteers, performers, and partners at the Alberta Rose Theatre—thank you for making this night feel effortless, electric, and deeply welcoming.

Captured through the lens of longtime collaborator John Rudoff, this post features Circus Luminescence, Robin & Lucy (with some standout audience guest stars), the Order of the High Clowncil, Jon Dutch, Leapin’ Louie, Stefano Laboni, Michael O’Neill, FouFou Ha!, and MirCat DragonFae.

This was a night that kept the laughter rolling from start to finish.

Here’s to a month (and a movement) of laughter that travels far beyond the room.

Feras Hatem, from the 2025 CWB team in Syria, reflects:
The bodies have passed, but the message remains.
In the face of loss, we continue the path Maher was part of—creating moments of joy and laughter for children and families carrying so much.
Through Salaman Ya Sununu, his spirit lives on in every shared smile and every moment of play.
Only the laughter he gave to others continues to carry his presence forward.

After violence in southern Syria took the life of a beloved member of our artistic community, his friends stepped forward to honor him. Salaman Ya Sununu (“Peace, Little Swallow”) was the name of the 2025 tour, created as a way to honor those lost through presence, play, and shared moments of laughter.

🎭 27 years of showing up with laughter—and this Saturday, Portland showed up right back at our Annual Benefit Show, a tradition that began in David Lichtenstein’s living room.

💛 From our incredible volunteers (pictured here with Event Manager Josie Marks-McQuade) to David himself still stealing the show (yes, that’s him with the lasso), this night was powered by people who care deeply about this work.

👏 To everyone who came out, donated, and filled the room with energy—thank you for making it unforgettable.

✨ Because of you, moments like these will travel far beyond the stage, reaching children and families who need them most.

Arrive early for a little pre-show prophecy. The Order of the High Clowncil presents ✨ BoZoltar ✨ — an immersive fortune-telling experience where fate meets farce.

Through squeaks, honks, and highly questionable mystical methods, these clown oracles will reveal your destiny. It’s mysterious. It’s mildly ridiculous. It’s the perfect way to begin an afternoon of laughter. Come curious… leave foretold.
