Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson's groundbreaking contributions to telecommunications revolutionized the way we communicate today. As the first Black woman to earn a Ph.D. in physics from MIT, Jackson’s research on subatomic particles paved the way for innovations such as fiber-optic cables, portable fax machines, caller ID, and call-waiting technology. These advancements, which have become integral parts of modern life, were all made possible by her pioneering work in theoretical physics. Jackson’s brilliance has earned her widespread recognition, including 55 honorary doctorate degrees, the National Medal of Science, and the inaugural Alice H. Parker Award. Widely regarded as one of the top 50 women in science and a leading figure in research and development, Jackson's legacy continues to shape the telecommunications industry and inspire future generations. When a reporter wore a grape costume to support a boy suspended for wearing a banana suit.

During a school halftime, 14 year old Bryan, who has autism, ran across the football field in a banana costume because he wanted to make people smile. Instead of treating it as a harmless moment, the school suspended him.

Pat Collins from News4 covered the story and was so frustrated by the punishment that he showed up dressed as a giant grape to stand with Bryan. That gesture sparked something. Students began wearing bright yellow shirts that said Free Banana Man to support their friend.

The school shut that down too. They banned the shirts, took them away, and even gave students detention for showing support.
