Today is World Homeless Day. In recognition of this day, we spent time on the streets meeting our neighbors experiencing homelessness.❤️

Our staff and volunteers offered practical resources, connection and care. We're grateful for the people we met and pray for their next steps, whether through our Red Doors or wherever they find the support they need.

Showing up can look different for each of us. It can mean offering a kind word, taking time to listen or helping someone find support.

World Homeless Day is one day, but caring for our neighbors happens every day. Today is a reminder that every person deserves to be seen, known and treated with dignity.

You can show up, too. Download and print our Resource Cards and be ready the next time you encounter a neighbor in need: https://www.bowery.org/get-involved/resources/

What does it mean to meet our neighbors where they are?

Outreach begins with showing up. It's an opportunity to offer tangible support, listen, build relationships, and help connect New Yorkers experiencing homelessness with additional care.

Showing up for our neighbors in need can take many forms. A simple interaction, a kind word, taking time to listen, or sharing helpful resources can make a meaningful difference.

As we approach World Homeless Day on October 10, we invite you to consider how you can show up. Learn more about simple ways you can help someone facing homelessness: https://www.bowery.org/homelessness/tips-help-homeless/

917 is more than an area code. It’s a connection shared by New Yorkers across all five boroughs.

This 9/17, we’re celebrating that connection by coming together for our neighbors in need. 3 ways to be part of The Bowery Mission's first-ever 917 Day:

1️⃣ Give: On 9/17, the first $100 of every gift doubles in impact — stay tuned!
2️⃣ Volunteer: Join us on the ground this week to serve.
3️⃣ Share: Post how you're supporting our community.

Mark your calendar as we unite and give hope to our city!

25 years later, we remember. ❤️

Today, we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001 and in the aftermath, and mourn alongside their loved ones who continue to carry their memory.

We also remember how we encountered so many at our lower Manhattan location. As our dear colleague Mr. Macklin recounts, New Yorkers came together and showed that they know how to love. Across backgrounds and communities, people showed up for one another with courage and compassion.

May we carry that same spirit forward together, with hope, even in the hardest moments.

Never forget. 🇺🇸

From Tribeca to the South Bronx, friends of The Bowery Mission made their way across New York City this weekend for a special multi-site run connecting our campuses along the way, totaling 15 miles!

Some of these friends are also training for the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon as part of Team Bowery Mission, using their miles to help fundraise for our neighbors experiencing homelessness and hunger.

A special thanks to longtime volunteer Josie for leading the group and congrats to everyone who participated in this special run. We’ll be cheering on Team Bowery Mission all the way to race day!

We recently had the joy of celebrating a very special milestone: longtime volunteer Ms. Pauline’s 90th birthday! 🎉

Ms. Pauline traveled from Arkansas with family and friends and marked the occasion by doing something she has faithfully done for years: caring for our neighbors in need. Together, they served dinner to our guests and clients, followed by vanilla ice cream, which Ms. Pauline provided for everyone to enjoy.

Happy 90th birthday, Ms. Pauline! We’re grateful for your years of faithful service and the many ways you continue to care for our community. ❤️
