The Right to Read Network

In response to the emergence of nationwide political groups organizing to remove books from library shelves, NCAC has created the Right to Read Network(RRN).

We are a NATIONAL NETWORK of freedom-to-read affiliates in communities across the United States.

Riley is a rising senior from Virginia who is passionate about politics, advocacy, and fostering change. Riley has taken on numerous leadership roles in advocacy and civic engagement organizations and hopes to study Public Policy in college before pursuing law school to become a Human Rights Lawyer.

Jennie-Kate is a rising senior from Virginia and the Online Editor for her school’s newspaper. She is passionate about protecting students from censorship and, in her free time, enjoys reading, writing, and researching historical topics.

Daun is a rising senior from Utah who is passionate about making a difference and protecting free expression. Recently more engaged in politics, Daun has seen how vital free speech is—and how easily it can feel threatened. Through SAS, Daun hopes to learn how to advocate for others, protect students’ voices, and ensure that no one feels silenced for who they are or what they believe.

Nayimah is a rising senior from Texas passionate about literature and social impact. At school, she’s involved with a book and media literacy nonprofit that helps make reading more fun and accessible for underprivileged youth. Through SAS, Nayimah is excited to join a community of student advocates and work together to protect free expression.

Marshall is a student advocate from Texas passionate about education equity, LGBTQIA+ rights, and civic engagement. As a trans, Two-Spirit, and Indigenous Latino youth organizer, he knows firsthand how vital free expression is—especially for young people whose voices are too often silenced. Through SAS, Marshall hopes to deepen his understanding of the First Amendment, strengthen his organizing skills, and amplify student voices in the fight for justice.

Asha is a rising junior from Tennessee and a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. Involved with organizations like Planned Parenthood, Human Rights Campaign, and GLSEN, Asha is dedicated to advancing equality and access to information. Through SAS, they are excited to help protect free expression and highlight the importance of open dialogue in a democratic society.

Aahanna is a junior from South Carolina dedicated to civic engagement and promoting youth voices in education and policy. She hopes to study law, international relations, and public policy to challenge systems that silence or erase marginalized voices. Through SAS, Aahanna looks forward to uplifting unheard voices and disrupting the status quo.

Abagayle is a high school junior from Pennsylvania. As a student journalist battling censorship, they are passionate about preserving freedom of speech, especially as it pertains to writing and literature. In their spare time, Abagayle enjoys reading, performing in plays and musicals, and grammar-checking their friends' essays, which they also do professionally as a copy editor for Vellichor Literary, a youth-run literary magazine.

Sophie is a rising senior from Ohio who enjoys writing, public speaking, and reading. She has developed these skills through leadership on her high school’s Model UN team and advocacy with the American Cancer Society. Sophie looks forward to working with the SAS team and using her voice to support free expression.

Mirica is a senior from Ohio who is passionate about international affairs and citizenship, with aspirations to attend law school. In her free time, she enjoys listening to lectures and podcasts, making playlists for friends, reading, and writing playful reviews of miscellaneous things.

Alma is a rising junior from New York and a first-generation Syrian-American passionate about public policy and community outreach. She is interested in how art and literature can be used as tools for social engagement and activism. When not doing tech for her school’s theater shows, Alma volunteers at NYPL, runs her school’s Middle Eastern North African Club, or curls up with a good book.
