Vappu is a Finnish holiday celebrating spring, Labor Day, and May Day all in one—after a long winter, people fill the streets and parks for lively picnics, drinks, and sweet treats.

Join us in the Central Park for a Vappu picnic celebration on May 2nd, 2024 at 2pm - 4pm.

We bring Mölkky and we also serve delicious Finnish mead (sima) and doughnut (munkki).

First come, first serve! :)

Bring a blanket to sit on and some snacks or lunch if you like!

Erik Eino Ochsner, an orchestral conductor and our advisory board member, recounts his transformative experience working at the Savonlinna Opera Festival in 1987 in our latest blog post. This experience, which included assisting with performances of Aida, The Magic Flute, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, profoundly impacted his life. He reconnected with his host family and friends over the years and returned to Finland in 2025, attending performances and reconnecting with his “chosen family.” Read more about his upcoming plans in Finland in our blog:
