🎓✨ Jamela Winocour ’24 (BFA), an interior designer at Ingrao, recently participated in NYSID’s Speed Portfolio Review, offering valuable feedback and guidance to students preparing to enter the job market.

“I love this school. I am happy to give back to the NYSID family in any way I can,” says Jamela.
As a student, Jamela received both the NYSID BFA Trustee Scholarship and the NYSID Diversity Scholarship, awards that helped shape her journey. She says, “I had been intimidated by starting over in life. I really needed that extra push that came with the validation of the scholarships. It gave me the confidence to keep going.”

In honor of Pride Month, NYSID is recognizing historical designers who have shaped the world of design. ✨

We’re highlighting actor turned interior designer William "Billy" Haines. Forced out of Hollywood because he refused to hide his identity, he started a design business with his romantic partner Jimmie Shields. He was a pioneer of the Regency Revival and had many celebrity clients including Joan Crawford and Carole Lombard. Today, he is best known for his furniture designs, many of which remain highly sought after by collectors.

🎉 Congratulations to Jamie Lyn Smith '25 (BID), principal and founder of Smith Home Studios, on being featured in Upstate House for her stunning transformation of her family’s ski cabin!

Jamie preserved the character of the original 1970s A-frame structure while reimagining the home for modern family life. From opening up the kitchen and living spaces for better flow to incorporating natural materials and warm wood finishes throughout the home, every design decision was made with comfort and connection in mind.

The NYSID community remembers the life and legacy of Scott Ageloff, who passed away on June 2.

Scott Ageloff received his Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon Institute and his Master of Architecture from Yale University. He founded Ageloff & Associates, which became Ageloff Design Group, where he became known for his thoughtful integration of architecture and interior design and his commitment to improving the lives of his clients through design.

"Scott played a pivotal role in the college’s growth during a period of significant program and facility expansion. As dean, he helped shape NYSID’s emergence as a leader in design education, strengthening the foundation on which it continues to build today. A generous mentor to students, faculty, and staff, he inspired many through his dedication to design education and the profession. His influence lives on through the many lives he touched,” says NYSID President David Sprouls.

“Scott's leadership in interior design legislation, program accreditation, and the profession deeply influenced NYSID's growth and its reputation for rigorous curricula and outstanding programs,” says NYSID Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean Ellen Fisher.

In honor of Pride Month, NYSID is recognizing historical figures whose lasting contributions have shaped the world of design. ✨

Today, we’re spotlighting pioneering interior designer Elsie de Wolfe, often regarded as America’s first decorator. After beginning her career as an actress, de Wolfe became one of the first professional women interior decorators, with clients including Henry Clay Frick, Anne Harriman Vanderbilt, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.

Known for transforming dark, ornate Victorian interiors, she introduced lighter French-inspired palettes. De Wolfe lived and worked with her life partner, Elisabeth Marbury, and together they renovated homes, leaving a lasting mark on the design industry.
