OUR FRIENDS NEED HELP!
We have started this fundraiser for our fearless leader Bliss Griffin and her best bud and service animal Quimbee. Many of you from our Harlem dog community know Bliss as a fierce canine advocate and the woman leading the charge for dog resources and play space in . Bliss on countless occasions has organized gear swaps, and educational classes for the community as well as hosting all the amazing programming in Jackie Robinson Park with fierce love and passionate care for all the animals (and their parents) in our area.
Two weeks ago, a newcomer to our lovely morning meetup group decided to play with a very tiny ball (despite members of our meet-up asking her to put it away) and unfortunately, Quimbee swallowed it. He was immediately taken to the animal hospital after not being able to pass it and required surgery to remove it. While they were in surgery it was suggested to do his neutering because he would be under anesthesia anyway and the procedures were performed in tandem. After a week of recovery, Quimbee developed a massive scrotal hematoma and Bliss again had to take him to the emergency vet. they said to watch it and treat it with warm compresses. It progressively got worse and early this morning the surgeon decided that Quimbee needs a second surgery and 2 overnights at the hospital.
This preventable tragedy has cost Bliss in so many ways: She has been displaced from her home because her building does not have an elevator for Quimbee to use. Fortunately, an amazingly supportive friend has taken them in for his recovery. The complete care will cost at least $12K. Bliss is limited to a Law student’s cost of living budget, which is now completely spent on QB’s care. Despite all this, Bliss was hosting and welcoming dog families all day on Jackie Robinson Day.
We hope our donations can relieve the financial stress on our generous, caring leader. If you can donate or like/share, please do!
