“A healthy population is a productive population.”

Our CEO, Dr. Solomon Zewdu, highlighted the critical role of NTD elimination in strengthening economies during a panel on the African healthcare revolution, alongside Françoise Lombard, Mohammed Akoojee, Caitlin Burton, Neel Andhee-Shah, and Kanwulia Okafor.

Thank you, , for bringing together exceptional leaders committed to building and sustaining meaningful change in Africa.

Collaborative models like ours are accelerating progress toward NTD elimination by strengthening national programmes and health systems. But to achieve the goal of 100 countries eliminating at least one NTD by 2030, we must remain committed to driving sustained action, investment, and partnership.

Meet Dr. Francisca, an entomologist and lead researcher on neglected tropical diseases in Tshopo Province in DRC.

Dr. Francisca is collecting samples to assess the progress and transmission of onchocerciasis, also known as river blindness, helping researchers monitor the status of the disease and guide control efforts in the region.
River blindness is a parasitic disease that causes severe itching and, if left untreated, can lead to irreversible blindness.

Reaching elimination is a coordinated effort that spans the frontline scientists to national programs to global pooled funding. Niger was the first African country to eliminate river blindness, and the efforts of scientists like Dr Francisca are central to progress.

Meet Nathaniel, a Healthcare Provider in Nigeria supporting people with debilitating pain from lymphatic filariasis, a neglected tropical disease.

Nathaniel provides care and support to patients living with lymphatic filariasis, a painful and often disabling disease.

Lymphatic filariasis is a parasitic disease transmitted by mosquitoes that causes chronic swelling of body parts, resulting in physical disability.

Over the last five years, the number of people requiring treatment for lymphatic filariasis in Nigeria has decreased by 97 million, reducing the country’s disease burden by 72 per cent.

Our partnerships span from the community of pooled funders to the healthcare workers delivering frontline treatment.

Two key milestones in the effort to eliminate neglected tropical diseases were shared at the in Nairobi.

The total number of countries that have eliminated an NTD is now 62, taking us closer to the ’s target of 100 by 2030.

The has validated Algeria’s elimination of trachoma as a public health problem, making it the 29th country globally to achieve this significant milestone.

This is NTD elimination in action. Let’s keep moving forward.

On World Malaria Day, we’re reminded that progress against malaria is possible, but not guaranteed.

Decades of investment have saved millions of lives, yet malaria still puts millions of people at risk.

Today is a call to action: to keep pushing toward a future where preventable diseases no longer hold communities back.

Thank you, , for bringing together visionary leaders who are working hard to build and sustain meaningful change.

We hosted a high level funder panel on the sidelines of the Forum, with our CEO, Dr Solomon Zewdu speaking about collaborative philanthropy, alongside The END Fund’s board members and anchor investors: Tsitsi Masiyiwa, Sir Christopher Hohn, Faustina Fynn Nyame, and Bernadette Moffat who shared tangible examples on how they have worked collaboratively with partners including governments and pharmaceutical companies to reach shared goals in a truly neglected area.

At an event hosted by The Bridgespan Group, Dr Solomon Zewdu joined Abigail Kajumba, Aditya Natraj, Bernadette Moffat, Sasha Gallant, Alison Powell, Partner and they spoke on the power of cross-sector collaboration amid the seismic shifts in international aid.

At the Side-Bar, Bridie Layden joined Chilande Kuloba-Warria, Nadait Gebremedhen, Christa Lane Hooper and Rashmir Balasubramaniam to co-host a participatory discussion on what philanthropy gets wrong and how we can do better.

We’ve learnt so much, been inspired and connected with old and new friends. Thank you to everyone who joined our events, shared their perspectives, and followed online.

Today, we embraced collaboration in our sidelines panel.

Our CEO, Dr. Solomon Zewdu, was joined by Tsitsi Masiyiwa (.m_official) Delta Philanthropies, Sir Christopher Hohn, Faustina Fynn Nyame - CIFF, and Bernadette Moffat - ELMA Philanthropies.

They delved deep into collaborative philanthropy and explored how pooling resources and expertise, alongside governments and communities, accelerates NTD elimination.

Thank you to our panellists for sharing thoughtful stories and tangible examples. And thank you to our old and new friends who joined the event.

Meet Ali, a community leader in Kenya. He has been living with lymphatic filariasis, a debilitating neglected tropical disease, for as long as he can remember.

With Kenya on the brink of eliminating the disease after more than two decades of work, community-led efforts are now focused on ensuring existing patients like Ali can access adequate care.

Kenya offers a powerful example of what’s possible. Through government leadership and coordinated support from pooled investors, program and pharmaceutical partners, the time required to treat and interrupt the transmission of lymphatic filariasis has been reduced from at least five years to just two.
