An upcoming new dance-theater project we are supporting, EVERYDAY IS A PIG’S BIRTHDAY by Tara P. Nyingjè 寜婕, is seeking performers to begin rehearsals right away in NYC for performances this summer.

EVERYDAY IS A PIG’S BIRTHDAY is a movement-driven ensemble work about birthdays, failed celebrations, a flying pig, melting ice-cream cakes, and a joke that never reaches its ending.

We are looking for performers with strong physical awareness and an interest in movement-based performance, choreography, repetition, rhythm, and ensemble creation.

TO AUDITION - PLEASE READ:
All roles in Everyday is A Pig’s Birthday are emotionally demanding, and some roles are physically demanding. Performers should be comfortable with ensemble-based movement, breath work, and poetic text delivery. Everyday is A Pig's Birthday will be delivered in English, all roles are required to be able and confident to speak in English. Non-native English speakers are welcome. Multilingual or multicultural lived experiences are also warmly welcomed but not required. All identities are encouraged to audition. Casting will prioritize emotional truthfulness, physical sensitivity, and collaborative spirit over conventional demographics.

SELF-TAPE REQUIREMENTS:
Please submit via video links (YouTube unlisted, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.).
We recommend:
- English Monologue (required) – 1-2 minutes: a short monologue you feel confident with
- Dance/ Movement Reel (required) – 30-45 seconds: choreography or movement sample
- Acting Reel (optional) – 1-2 minutes: acting clips sample

**Please make sure any uploaded files or shared links are accessible to anyone with the link.**

*All roles in this project are open to all gender identities, ages, and nationalities.

Francesca Asher, the sole child member of the CRS Sufi Dance community before the pandemic, revisits lessons learned from the practice, also known as Sama ("spiritual listening"), as she recovers from hearing loss and prepares to enter college and adulthood.

My research into global religions led me spinning barefoot, one foot after the other. When inevitable dizziness set in, my elders reminded me to ground myself with both palms on the floor. As I loved to learn through experience, I became the sole child member of a Sufi whirling group that met on Thu...

The Dream Feed by Zosha Di Castri
With Piano Improvised by Eunbi Kim

“As someone who has always been interested in improvisation but also intimidated by it, preparing this piece became a meaningful creative challenge. What helped me connect to it was the work’s inspiration in motherhood. Conceptually, I thought about the realization that my mind never fully shuts off from thinking about my children, even while asleep or dreaming. I first became aware of this shortly after my first child was born, and over time I’ve come to reconcile with the idea that this is now a permanent state of being.” — Eunbi Kim

Performed as part of a prelude to It Feels Like a Dream, The Dream Feed (2021) by Zosha Di Castri is a work for performer and electronics inspired by motherh...

Writer Yasuko Kasaki explores the Aichi Triennale, which brought together a diverse group of non-Western artists/groups with twenty-six from Japan to respond to the horrific carnage and environmental destruction rampant around the world. The Triennale reexamines the serious issues that lie between humans and the environment, not from the anthropocentric perspectives of nation, territory, or ethnicity, but from a geological timeline. Rather than focusing on the extreme dichotomy of ashes (apocalypticism) or roses (optimism), it attempts to unravel the world through nuanced thinking in the space between.

During my autumn stay in Japan, two compelling reasons drew me to the Aichi Triennale, which brought together a diverse group of non-Western artists/groups, including participants from the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, alongside Asian artists/groups, with twenty-six from Japan, and took pl...
