4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS!
PLAN AHEAD TO KEEP YOUR PETS SAFE AND CALM

🎆 Fireworks are a festive tradition, but they can be overwhelming — and even dangerous — for pets. The loud booms, bright flashes, and unpredictability of July 4th celebrations often trigger fear, anxiety, or escape attempts. Since fireworks can begin days in advance, planning ahead is key.

✅ Check your pet’s ID tag and microchip to ensure your contact info is current. Keep a recent photo on hand in case your pet goes missing.

🛋️ Create a quiet, comforting space at home by closing blinds, muffling noise with blankets or curtains, and playing white noise or calming music.

🧸 Have calming tools ready, such as medication, compression vests, or other veterinarian-approved calming aids.

🐕‍🦺 Adjust your routine so pets are exercised and indoors before the evening. A tired pet is more likely to rest through the commotion.

🚫 Never bring your pet to a fireworks display. Even the most easygoing animals can startle and bolt in response to the sudden noise and lights. The safest place for your pet is at home, in a familiar, quiet setting where they feel secure.

From Schwarzman Animal Medical Center: Weathering Winter Walks

With winter in full swing, it's important to take steps to protect your dog against the elements. Here are some ways to make winter walks safer and more enjoyable for both you and your dog.
Keep in mind that each dog's tolerance for the cold differs based on factors like size, coat, age, and overall health. Know your dog's limit and keep a close eye on their behavior. If your dog is shivering, whining, slowing down, or holding up one or more paws, cut the walk short and head inside.
