PAGE SIX mentions Christopher Carter Sanderson for artistic director at The Public NYSF: LONGTIME Public Theater artistic director Oskar Eustis, 68, is set to leave the esteemed downtown institution in 2028 — but Page Six hears the race to succeed him may already be heating up. People are already clamoring for the top job, with Christopher Carter Sanderson, founder and artistic director of Gorilla Repertory Theater Companyl and a longtime champion of free, outdoor Shakespeare, telling Page Six he’s vying to take the reins. Sanderson tells Page Six he wants to channel the spirit of legendary Public Theater founder Joseph Papp, who built the institution around the idea that great theater should be accessible to everyone and that artists should have room to take big risks. His ambitious proposal is to bring free Shakespeare to all five boroughs and help revitalize New York’s struggling off-off-Broadway scene. The Public tells Page Six its board of trustees is leading the search this fall, with hopes that a new artistic director will be announced sometime in 2027.”
