You’re invited to a free Liway (2018) film screening + community discussion with Filipino Artists in Los Angeles to commemorate the anniversary of Martial Law in the Philippines under Ferdinand Marcos Sr. 🍿🇵🇭📽️ RSVP LINK: https://luma.com/uvmni0zm
Dakip is a little boy who lives with his parents, Day and Ric, inside Camp Delgado, a makeshift prison inside a military camp for rebels and criminals. Day does her best to shelter the child from the harsh realities of their life with songs and stories about an enchantress named Liway. However, at the tail end of Martial Law, her own dark past catches up on her and the lives of the detainees become increasingly difficult. She is confronted with the cruel possibility that the best interest of her child means never seeing her again. This is based on a true story.

On this Martial Law Anniv, Marcos Jr., carries on his father’s legacy, and the legacy of every puppet Philippine president so far 🤡 Rodrigo Duterte is locked up in the International Criminal Court, and yet the state forces of the Philippines continue to kidnap activists and journalists and massacre civilians. This shows us that the problem is not just Marcos or Duterte, but all kurakots (corrupt), propped up by a system of corruption, greed, and US subservience, who terrorize our people, leave them abandoned in floods, and force them to seek a living abroad to avoid starving in their homes.

Yesterday’s Sept 21st Martial Law Anniv Rally🕯️ “Pop Cola” by Zosimo Quibilan is one of several stories set during Martial Law from by book of fiction, Pagluwas (University of the Philippines Press) that won the National Book Award 2007 and Madrigal Gonzalez Best First Book Award 2008 📕 “Salvaging is a martial law legacy - imagine growing up and thinking that’s the norm.”

IKULONG NA YAN MGA KURAKOTS!!! Join us on Sunday, September 20 to launch the people’s movement against corruption here in Southern California!

RSVP at tinyurl.com/KBKKLaunch for more information.

One year has passed since the ₱2.38‑billion flood control scandal was exposed in the Philippines after floods displaced millions of people and killed nearly 300 Filipinos. In 2026, Marcos Jr. has failed to hold those responsible for the “ghost” flood control projects accountable even now as 39 Filipinos have died from another season of tropical typhoons and flooding.

The corruption of bureaucrat capitalists in power like Marcos Jr. continues to be the root cause of people’s suffering and death. While our people are drowning, Marcos Jr. continues to throw lavish private parties for his cliques, U.S. Ambassador Jose Romualdez continues to promote the selling out of our own land to the United States for the infamous Pax Silica deal, and clear perpetrators of corruption like Zaldy Co walk free despite overwhelming evidence of their crimes.
