Families in El Rosario II, Panimaquín, and Los Corrales are gaining greater access to essential child health and nutrition services through strengthened coordination with local health posts and community health providers.

During April, community-based health activities supported growth monitoring, vaccinations, parasite prevention treatment, nutritional supplements, and individualized counseling for children under two and their families. A total of 72 children received nutritional assessments, while more than 170 participants received vitamins and nutritional support.

Home visits also provided additional follow-up and support for families with children identified as being at nutritional risk, helping strengthen healthy feeding and care practices within the home and community.

Families in El Rosario, Panimaquín, and Los Corrales are strengthening healthy practices at home through the “Wheel of Practices for Better Living” methodology.

Through interactive sessions, mothers explored key topics related to nutrition, hygiene, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and early childhood care using practical visual tools designed to support learning and everyday application at home.

Each family also received a “Wheel of Practices for Better Living” banner to display in their homes, helping reinforce healthy habits and support ongoing learning during household visits with the technical team.

Four community promoters were selected to participate in a national gathering, “Collective Momentum: Women Leading Change in Guatemala,” through scholarship opportunities coordinated with El Directorio Guatemala, a national network that connects and strengthens social impact organizations across Guatemala.

The experience brought together women leaders from across the country to exchange ideas and experiences around leadership, civic participation, community organization, and women’s empowerment. For many participants, it was an opportunity to connect beyond their own communities, expand their perspectives, and strengthen their vision for leadership and advocacy.

These experiences continue to strengthen a growing network of women leaders returning to their communities with new ideas, inspiration, and tools to support community participation and local leadership.

Women from El Rosario, Panimaquín, and Los Corrales came together through the “Recognizing My Emotions” workshop to strengthen leadership, community participation, and personal well-being. 💜

Using the “Emotions Traffic Light” methodology, participants explored tools for self-awareness, assertive communication, and peaceful conflict resolution while reflecting on everyday experiences related to family and community life.

The sessions also created spaces for connection, mutual support, and shared learning, strengthening trust, empathy, and leadership among women across the communities.

More than 200 young people participated in intergenerational dialogue spaces alongside community authorities and COCODES — local community development councils — in El Rosario and Los Corrales, strengthening civic participation and community leadership.

Through the Intergenerational Dialogue on Community Leadership, youth and local leaders exchanged ideas on organization, leadership, and community management, creating spaces for dialogue between generations and encouraging greater youth participation in community decision-making.

In El Rosario II, a new approach to early childhood development is taking root, creating space for both children and their caregivers to grow.

As mothers participate in trainings, community promoters lead engaging, hands-on activities with young children, supporting their development in language, motor skills, socialization, and learning. This allows women to fully focus on building their own knowledge and skills, knowing their children are learning and cared for nearby.

By investing in both caregivers and children at the same time, this effort is strengthening families and laying the foundation for healthy development from the very beginning, grounded in the support and connection of the community.

Through coordinated weight and height monitoring sessions, children under five received individualized counseling, nutritional support, and follow-up care to help strengthen healthy growth and development.

The activities are carried out in close collaboration with local community health services, helping connect families with the care, guidance, and support available within their own communities.

Together, families, health workers, and community leaders are strengthening preventive care practices and building a healthier future for children during the most important early years of life.

In Xecoxol, Paquixic, and Panicuy, communities are coming together to strengthen how they manage and sustain their water systems for the future.

Through a collaborative process, community leaders, COCODES, and local authorities are defining shared roles, responsibilities, and guidelines for how these systems are operated and maintained.

This work is strengthening local leadership, ownership, and accountability, helping ensure that access to safe water is sustained by the community, for the community, over the long term.

In March, mothers and caregivers came together for hands-on food preparation sessions using local, accessible ingredients. Side by side, they prepared age-appropriate recipes suited to their children’s different stages of growth, building practical skills for complementary feeding at home.

Through this shared experience, participants strengthened not only their knowledge of nutrition, but also their practices in hygiene and dietary diversity. Children responded positively to the foods, reflecting the care and attention behind each meal.

These moments bring more than new skills. They foster connection, confidence, and a sense of community that continues to grow beyond the session and into everyday life.

In Los Corrales, men are coming together to reflect on what it means to show up for their families and communities. As part of this process, a workshop on “Male Privileges and Shared Responsibility in Caregiving” was facilitated by specialized partners, creating space to reflect on traditional gender roles and how responsibilities are shared in the home.

By exchanging experiences and engaging in open dialogue, participants began to question long-held norms and build more respectful, equitable relationships.

This work is helping shape a new path forward, where responsibility is shared, relationships are stronger, and communities grow through mutual respect and care.
