New York City’s proposed budget includes major cuts to preventive services that would affect children, families, and community-based organizations across the five boroughs, including Power of Two. We remain hopeful in having this decision reversed and are engaged, and in a fight alongside partners, advocates, and City Council leaders because prevention is essential.

Power of Two didn’t just celebrate Women’s History Month—we lived it! This month, we have been (extra) busy advocating for the future of New York. 🏛️

Our leaders have traveled across NYC to Albany and back, ensuring that the voices of children, mothers, and families are heard. Advocacy is in our DNA—as an organization founded by women, led by women, and dedicated to supporting women, we understand firsthand the transformative impact women have on our society.

We are incredibly grateful for the chance to connect with so many powerhouse women leaders across NYC and NYS this month. Whether we’re in legislative offices or in the living rooms of the hundreds of mothers and women caregivers we serve annually, our mission remains the same: ensuring every family has the tools to succeed.

The data is clear: When women thrive, we all do.❤️

Advocating for children and families never stops for Power of Two! Recently our Executive Director, Coleen, was a panelist on “Building an Early Childhood Agenda in NYC at the Fund for the City of New York’s Innovation Across Silos Conference, naming what families and providers across NYC are experiencing right now: overlapping crises, compounding stress, and systems that are not keeping pace with what families are being asked to carry.

So many families are currently navigating food insecurity, housing instability, rising child care and health care costs, and increasing administrative hurdles, often all at once. On paper, supports exist. But in practice, they are often too fragmented and burdensome to access under stress.

The early childhood sector has the knowledge and knows what works—what it lacks is the continuity and long-term funding required to match how children actually grow.

We hope these conversations are just the beginning of holistically supporting children, aligning our systems with families’ lived realities, and setting our communities up for long-term success and stability.

This past weekend Power of Two’s Executive Director, Coleen Stevens Porcher, attended 55th Annual Legislative Conference of the New York State Association of Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and Asian Legislators (NYSABPRHAL), joining leaders from across New York State to advance conversations on funding equity, economic mobility, and early childhood care.

We were proud to lift up one clear message: the expansion of childcare must be holistic, evidence-based, and workforce-centered. We can work toward universal childcare while ensuring we do not pit programs, families, and providers against one another.

Most critically, we must invest in the early childhood workforce: home visitors, family child care providers, center directors, and classroom staff. Expansion cannot come at their expense.

Grateful to connect with partners and leaders including Senator Jabari Brisport, Senator Roxanne Persaud, and colleagues from across the field committed to building a stronger system for children and families.

Last week, we were honored to have our Executive Director, Coleen Stevens Porcher, join Brooklyn Org for a vital conversation on protecting our communities, hosted by 651 ARTS.

As part of the “Brooklyn Backs Brooklyn” campaign, we discussed the power of community and the importance of supporting our neighbors now more than ever. We are so grateful for Brooklyn Org’s partnership and their continued investment in our mission to support caregivers and children.

Together, we’re ensuring every Brooklyn family has the support they deserve. 🤎
