Santiago is only 2 years old and already his fight against leukemia has begun.
Back home, his two siblings Giulia and Martino anxiously await for him to return home and be free to play with them once again. Typically, this family spends their time traveling and camping in the great outdoors. Lately, however, their rhythm has drastically changed.
Santiago has been spending his time in and out of the hospital, returning frequently for chemotherapy sessions and routine check-ups. Santiago's father, Giovanni, still is hopeful that some day their lives will return to normal once again, but for Santiago's mother Antonella, she has her doubts. Given the seriousness of Santiago's diagnosis, she doubts that her family's life will ever be the same again. Even so, she is prepared to rise to the challange and do her best to be there for her son no matter what.
Since Santiago was diagnosed with leukemia, the family's life has drastically changed. Antonella & Giovanni are working with our staff psychologist to process the difficulties they face as parents—the constant struggle to support one another as partners and give their 3 children the attention they need, despite spreading themselves thin between home life and repeat trips to the hospital.
Today, Santiago is on the road to recovery. Visiting his room at the Polyclinic of Pavia, you can't help but notice the plentiful photographs of his family surrounding him. He often glances at those of his siblings, longing to play with them again soon. Today, Santiago continues to be very outgoing and social, offering a charming smile to all those he meets, as if to say thank you for all their support ❤️.
