Lisbon hosts the Tolerance Poster Show

The Tolerance Poster Show will take place between June 17th and July 15th, 2026, an initiative of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon in partnership with the Lisbon City Council and MUDE - Museum of Design.

The initiative to bring the Tolerance Poster Show to Lisbon comes from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon in close cooperation with Mirko Ilić, with the partnership of the Lisbon City Council and MUDE - Museum of Design. The exhibition will take place between June 17th and July 15th, at MUDE and three other public spaces, on a pedestrian route that begins at the Faculty of Fine Arts, passing through Largo de São Carlos, descending to Praça do Município and ending at the Museum of Design. The exhibition's opening coincides with the opening of the Design Thinking Research Symposium 15, organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, and will end on July 15th with a debate at MUDE - Museum of Design.

The Tolerance Poster Show will bring to Chiado and Baixa de Lisboa different graphic approaches to the word tolerance, inviting public reflection on the topic.

Mariana Marques is the author of the exhibition poster.

We are pleased to let you know that on May 21st, 2026, the Tolerance Poster Show opened in Leskovac, Serbia, transforming the plaza in front of the Leskovac Cultural Centre into an open-air gallery dedicated to dialogue, diversity and coexistence, featuring 30 Tolerance Posters. The show was presented on the occasion of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development and as part of Europe Month 2026 under the slogan “United in Diversity.” Installed in a busy public space rather than inside a gallery, the exhibition became part of the city’s everyday life — encountered by students, families, local residents and visitors moving through the square.

Following the 2025 Belgrade edition, the exhibition continued its journey across Serbia through a partnership between the United Nations in Serbia, the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade, the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia and Europe House Niš, in cooperation with the Leskovac Cultural Centre. The Leskovac edition was also part of the broader “Tolerance” campaign jointly implemented by the United Nations and the Council of Europe to promote dialogue, inclusion and respect for diversity through art and public engagement.

The opening gathered representatives of international organizations, local authorities, cultural institutions, youth representatives and media. Remarks were delivered by Matilde Mordt, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Serbia, Evgenija Giakoumopoulou, Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade, Črtomir Fišinger, Head of Political Department at the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, Goran Cvetanović, Mayor of Leskovac, and Sanja Conić, Director of the Leskovac Cultural Centre.

We would like to thank all partner institutions and organizations that contributed to bringing the Tolerance Poster Show to Leskovac, including the United Nations in Serbia, the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade, the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia and Europe House Niš, and the Leskovac Cultural Centre. Special thanks to Aleksandra Stamenkovic for her effort in organizing this show.

Berlin Design Week 2026: "Design Real" – May 28 to 31 in Berlin

'Ten years of Berlin Design Week—and this anniversary edition sounds exactly like Berlin itself: expansive, idiosyncratic, and free of hierarchical boundaries between disciplines. Under the motto DESIGN REAL, international design studios, universities from five countries, established brands, and political poster art come together—not merely as a program, but as a city.

With the *Tolerance Project*, an international poster exhibition takes up residence at *Die Macherei*: 60 posters by designers from around the globe, tasked with a single objective—to visually translate the word "Tolerance" into their own language. Curated by Mirko Ilić and printed by Lieblingsdrucker Berlin, this touring exhibition brings political poster culture back into everyday life, infusing the DESIGN REAL theme with a clear social stance. Ilić is no stranger to this format: as the former Art Director of the *New York Times* Op-Ed pages, he has shaped images that have resonated far beyond the realm of design.'

We are pleased to let you know that on May 18, 2026, the Tolerance Poster Show opened its sixth presentation of posters in Sofia in the foyer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building.

“’Connectivity' brings together in a single collection selected posters from the highly successful traveling global poster series 'Tolerance,' alongside works by artists from around the world participating in the International Theatre Poster Triennial project 'Contact,' which has been continuously developing and expanding over the past decade.

Presented together in the foyer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, the posters gain additional meaning and strength, as they remind official institutions of the universal messages of peace, mutual understanding, and respect for the inherent dignity and equal, inalienable rights of all people — principles that form the foundation of freedom and justice in the world, as proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”

The exhibition is the result of a joint project between the State Institute for Culture, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the International Triennial of Stage Poster.

All of our recent Sofia shows were organized by the International Triennial of Stage Poster - Sofia Co-Founder Албена Спасова, and we thank her again for her effort in spreading Tolerance in Bulgaria.

We are pleased to share with you the first announcement of a new Tolerance Poster Show at Berlin Design Week 2026.

The announcement is translated below:

“82 Posters. 82 Languages. One task: to visually translate the word 'Tolerance' — in one's own language, using one's own means.

The Tolerance Project is an international traveling exhibition founded by Mirko Ilić — illustrator, former Art Director of the New York Times Op-Ed pages, and one of the most influential voices in graphic and poster design worldwide. The posters were created by internationally renowned designers from all over the globe. Since 2017, the exhibition has traveled through more than 50 countries and reached over 700,000 people.

For Berlin Design Week 2026, the Tolerance Poster Show returns to the festival for a second time. 82 selected posters will be on display at Macherei — printed by Lieblingsdrucker Berlin. Political poster culture as a stance, not as decoration. A contribution that takes the festival motto, DESIGN REAL, at its word.”

We are pleased to let you know that on May 4, 2026, in Sintra, Portugal, the Tolerance Poster Show was a part of the Intercultural Week at the Escola Secundária de Mem Martins, featuring 17 Tolerance Posters. Intercultural Week celebrates students’ nationalities, inclusion, respect, tolerance, and diversity.

The posters were displayed in the school library, where they captured the attention of many students, teachers, and assistants. Inspired by the exhibition, students wrote words and reflections on a collaborative mural.

This exhibition was made possible thanks to the efforts of Margarida Parente and Teresa Gomes.

We are happy to let you know that on May 11, 2026, the Tolerance Poster Show opened in Pljevlja, Montenegro, marking the third presentation of the exhibition in the country. Although our gathering was originally planned for May 9th, Victory Day over Fascism and Europe Day, adverse weather conditions forced us to postpone the opening by two days.

The show was presented at the city square in the center of Pljevlja, where citizens, students, artists, and visitors gathered around messages of tolerance, inclusion, and understanding communicated through the universal language of design.

The creation of the Pljevlja edition of the Tolerance Poster Show was led by Aleksandar Ostojić, Director of the PI Art Gallery “Vitomir Srbljanović,” with support from Srđa Dragović and Flux Design Network. The opening ceremony included speeches by Aleksandar Ostojić and Jelena Bojović, curator of the Yugoslav Museum of Humor and Satire, who also spoke about Mirko Ilić’s important donation of rare international satirical publications, books, and magazines to the museum in Pljevlja.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to bringing the Tolerance Poster Show to Pljevlja, especially Srđa Dragović, without whose help this show could not have been realized.

I am pleased to let you know that on April 20, 2026, the University of Wyoming(UW) hosted the Tolerance Project. Nestled in the Rocky Mountains in Laramie, UW is the academic and cultural hub for the state. Over 100 posters were exhibited in several buildings around campus, including in the Coe Library, the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts, the Honors College, the Classroom Building, the Enzi STEM Building, and the College of Business. The exhibition also featured work by local artist Rose Gardner.

The show was made possible by three student organizations: Hillel, the Middle Eastern and North African Cultural Club, and the United Multicultural Council. We would like to thank their respective presidents, Nathan Corley, Arielle Coleman, and Jasmin Mahoney, as well as a special thanks to Hillel faculty advisor Stephanie Anderson, for organizing and curating the exhibition. Special thanks also to Erin Brorsen, Camila Gomes, and Allyson Rocco.
