🇺🇦 Continuing the Work in Washington

Proud to see our Board Member, Oli M. Nevinska, representing HUCUS Foundation and continuing her advocacy for Ukraine as part of the American Coalition for Ukraine.

The 9th Ukraine Action Summit brought together 650+ participants from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, with hundreds of advocates joining congressional meetings on Capitol Hill.

For HUCUS, advocacy is about showing up consistently, building relationships, and connecting people and organizations working toward a common purpose.

We are grateful for the conversations and connections with leaders of the Ukrainian-American community, including Myroslava Gongadze, Iryna Mazur, Mykhailo Savkiv, and for everyone who continues to contribute their time, experience, and voice for Ukraine.

The Summit also took place at an important moment in Washington. On September 16, the U.S. House passed the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 by a 262–159 vote; the legislation was subsequently signed into law on September 18.

Advocacy takes consistency. It takes collaboration. And it takes showing up.

HUCUS Foundation was honored to join the 9th Ukrainian Action Summit in Washington, D.C., as a member of the American Coalition for Ukraine, with the leadership and support of our Board Member Oli M. Nevinska.

We were also honored to join the Ukrainian community at Ukraine House in celebrating Ukraine’s Independence anniversary and to reconnect with so many friends and partners.

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage of the first responders, firefighters, police officers, medical professionals, and ordinary people who stepped forward in a moment of unimaginable tragedy.

We remember the families who lost loved ones and the communities forever changed that day.

The Ukrainian Literature and Scholarship Program, launched by HUCUS Foundation in partnership with the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute, has been recognized among “Five Ukrainian Cultural Initiatives Winning Over American Audiences.”

The feature highlights how Ukrainian culture is reaching growing audiences across the United States — and how our new program is helping bring Ukrainian literature and scholarship to English-speaking readers.

We are proud to see this work recognized at the very beginning of its journey.

The Ukrainian word cannot be silenced. It can be translated, shared, and heard around the world. 🇺🇦

We are announcing the official launch of the Ukrainian Literature and Scholarship Program by HUCUS Foundation — created to support the translation and publication of Ukrainian literature in English, scholarship on Ukraine, and the development of the editorial infrastructure needed to bring Ukrainian voices to readers in the United States and around the world.

This program became possible through close collaboration with the Ukrainian Research Institute, Harvard University(HURI) and the visionary support of Dr. Oleh Kotsyuba, Director of Publications at HURI. Under our Memorandum of Understanding with HURI, we support the translation of Ukrainian literature into English, the development of sustainable editorial infrastructure, and initiatives such as the Ukrainian Book Challenge and the Translating Ukraine Summer Institute.

We are especially proud that the first book translated with support from HUCUS Foundation is Sophia Andrukhovych’s novel Felix Austria, translated by Vitaly Chernetsky.

This work is about more than translating books. It is about making Ukrainian literature, scholarship, history, and culture accessible to a wider English-speaking audience — and ensuring that Ukrainian voices continue to be heard around the world.

We invite donors, companies, publishers, translators, and colleagues across the cultural sector to join us in building a sustainable infrastructure for translation, editing, and publishing, and in helping Ukrainian books reach readers far beyond Ukraine.
