Introducing Hager Bekel: Inspiring What’s Possible

At Seeds of Africa, our High School Program, run in partnership with the Africa Education Fund Moringa, goes beyond access. We’re helping students imagine their futures.

This month, we launched Hager Bekel (“homegrown”), a new mentorship and speaker series connecting our students with accomplished professionals across a range of fields, broadening their perspectives and opening doors to new possibilities.

Our first speaker, Kiffle Abebe, CEO of Komari Beverage and former leader at Toyota and Diageo, set the tone with an inspiring conversation at

Moderated by Atti Worku, the session was a lively Q&A, with students asking thoughtful questions about Kifflé’s journey, from engineering to leading a company he helped build from the ground up.

The energy in the room was undeniable, just the beginning of many more inspiring conversations to come.

Today, we are honored to celebrate someone who has been a steadfast pillar of generosity for Seeds of Africa: .jembere founder of the newly launched Foundation.

Abaynesh has supported Seeds for many years, and in true testament to her heart for women and children, she chose our Sowing Community Program as the beneficiary of Motherland Mothers’ first-ever fundraiser.

Because of her leadership and the incredible community she inspires, more mothers in our Program in Ethiopia will gain access to micro-loans that strengthen their livelihoods and expand opportunities for their children.

Motherland Mothers Foundation is rooted in a powerful mission: to uplift mothers and children across Africa by supporting locally-led organizations dedicated to health, education, and essential resources. Their vision is a future where every mother and child can thrive, a vision that deeply aligns with our own.

At Seeds of Africa, we know that when mothers are empowered, children succeed. Our Sowing Community Program provides economic tools that help women build small businesses, from livestock fattening to injera making, hair salons, shops, and more. With stable income at home, students can stay in school, focus on learning, and dream boldly. We are so proud to stand beside Abaynesh in this shared mission of dignity, opportunity, and generational change.

Please join us in celebrating her new foundation and this beautiful partnership. 🌱💛

Here’s to women uplifting women, and to a future where every family thrives.

🎓 A Dream 15 Years in the Making 🎓
From Pre-K to 12th grade, our inaugural 12th grade class has crossed the finish line! 🥳

In Ethiopia, where only 27% of eligible students make it to high school graduation, this milestone is nothing short of extraordinary.

Our graduates have defied the odds, powered by 15 years of hard work, dedication, and the unwavering belief of our global community❤️

To our staff, volunteers, funders, and every single supporter: thank you. This moment is yours as much as it is theirs.

And we’re just getting started 🎒 We’ve launched our Student Transition Fund to help graduates take their next step, whether it’s college, technical training, or beyond.

Let’s write the next chapter together. Invest in their future today via the link in our bio and make the next milestone possible. 💫

📚✨ Mock Exam Day! ✨📚

Our Grade 8 students are hard at work taking their mock exams - a vital part of their preparation for the Grade 8 National Exam. This is a decisive moment in their academic journey, as their results play a key role in high school admissions.

Thanks to our comprehensive prep program, students gain more than just subject knowledge. They develop essential test-taking strategies, and build the confidence they need to perform at their best under pressure.

Mock exams not only simulate the real test environment but also help identify strengths and areas for improvement, giving our students a real advantage.

We’re so proud of their dedication and wish them the best of luck!
