Vanya is part of the Roma community in Bulgaria. She grew up without a family of her own. Now, as a first-time mother, she dreams of giving her son, Mert the best chance to build a brighter future.

Rise works with local partners, including hospitals, kindergartens and social services, to ensure support reaches all communities, despite language or cultural barriers.

Vanya now works with a social worker from the early childhood play and learning space, supported by Rise Bulgaria, who uses play-based activities, toys and encouragement to support Mert’s development and give Vanya the confidence and space to grow as a parent.

This is why Rise works with community partners – using the local channels already in place to ensure all children get the chance to play, learn, and thrive. And every parent gets the support needed to help them get there.

The Early Years are having their moment! This past UN Week we showed up for early childhood development, leading two discussions on the importance of investing in this once-in-a-lifetime window to ensure children meet their milestones and arrive at 1st grade ready to learn and thrive.

We cannot thank enough the incredible early years community contributing to these vital conversations and inviting us to share our expertise.

It was a pleasure to host Drs. Kebede and Natnael from the African Center for Early Childhood Development and we are so grateful for their partnership and invaluable insights.

We joined high-level discussions hosted by Early Childhood Development Action Network - ECDAN, Salzburg Global and Education House about early childhood financing and celebrated the announcement of Act for Early Years’ first-ever Global Early Years Finance Summit.

We also partook in a plethora of conversations hosted by longtime early childhood funding champions such as the مؤسسة الملكة رانيا Queen Rania Foundation, Van Leer Foundation, Grand Challenges Canada & ELMA Philanthropies – as well as great peer to peer discussions with our friends and brilliant play-based learning organizations like Lively Minds, Learn to Play and Sabre Education.

This is what is all about – building partnerships and connections that drive real change. We have left inspired by the immense passion and energy towards The Early Years and are ready to put these conversations into action. Let’s work together to build a better future for children today.

Young children in Ukraine have only known their country at war. So how can educators address this in classrooms?

“We lack the right tools for working with toddlers under three.”

This was the challenge shared with Rise Ukraine by experienced educators at a private kindergarten in Lviv.

Drawing on our expertise, Rise delivered practical training, helping educators understand not just what to do, but why it works.

Khrystyna Bohatyrova, Rise Ukraine’s Country Director and child psychologist, explored the psychology behind each activity.

Teachers left with a deeper understanding of early childhood development, practical tools, and 10 ready-to-use sessions for their classrooms.

At Rise, we believe that stronger classrooms start with confident, well-equipped teachers.

By sharing our evidence-based approaches and practical tools with local educators, we’re helping teachers respond to the unique needs of children during one of the most important stages of their development – helping more young children to heal and thrive.

What a week! Our Executive Director, Mara Lee Durrell, joined other Salzburg Global fellows and international early-childhood practitioners to think about how a global system could better deliver for children.

We are inspired and energized by this incredible group and can’t wait to work together over the next six months to put this learning into practice – both for Rise Alliance for Children, and by strengthening other early-childhood organizations.
