As we close Still Here: Harlem Eternal, we’re reflecting not only on the exhibition, but on the questions that shaped it:

What does it mean to maintain community and connectedness? What does it mean to be a steward of a community? How do we honor and protect the culture that generations of Harlem residents have created?

Throughout the exhibition, we considered Harlem not simply as a place, but as something continually shaped by its people—the families, artists, neighbors, businesses, institutions, and everyday relationships that have built and sustained its culture.

That culture is part of what has made Harlem such an attractive and inviting place. Still Here: Harlem Eternal asked us to recognize the people who created that culture, to value what has been passed down, and to consider our responsibility for carrying it forward.

These questions continued through our artist talk and community conversation with filmmaker Monica Freeman Monica, Sade Boyewa El Sade Boyewa El Ā© , Kathryn Kathryn ŁƒŲ§Ų«Ų±ŁŠŁ† šŸ‰ and members of our community, and through the different ways people gathered throughout the exhibition—from making and exchanging ideas during our Zine Workshop to coming together through music at the Defend Harlem DJ Set with DJ Sadgyal sada and DJ Lozano.

Thank you to Defend Harlem Defend Harlem for collaborating with us, and to all of the artists, participants, neighbors, friends, and visitors who spent time with the exhibition and contributed to these conversations.

The exhibition may be closing, but the work of sustaining community continues.

Still Here: Harlem Eternal.
