Through education and advocacy, we prepare girls to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers to advance a more equitable world. of NYC is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit, operating separately from the Girls Inc. of NYC is on the ground, delivering services that reach 10,000 young people at sites across the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. Your mind and body are a team. When you support one you uplift the other. 🧠✨

This , we’re shining a light on our Mind + Body Matters program—a program built to give young women across NYC practical tools to manage stress, practice mindfulness, and navigate life’s heavy moments. The program breaks down the stigma and misconceptions about mental health, provides safe spaces where students can talk about and express their feelings, and teaches them where to seek help if needed.
Real strength looks like listening to your body, honoring your emotional space, and knowing when to ask for support. You don’t have to carry it all alone. Caring for your mental health is always the right move.

Our leadership team recently returned from the 2026 Girls Inc. ASPIRE Conference in Arlington, VA! Built around this year’s theme, "Resourced and Ready," the conference brought together affiliate leaders from across the network to focus on closing the opportunity gap and expanding access to high-impact programming.

We are grateful for our larger affiliate communities all across North America.

We’ve been selected to receive a $20,000 grant supported by Citizens, the Official Bank of New York Road Runners, and the Citizens Philanthropic Foundation through the 2026 Citizens Miles That Matter Award, chosen by Alliya L of the Bronx, who will run the TCS New York City Marathon on November 1, with . This funding will directly impact 35 girls through our financial literacy program, equipping them with financial education and tools, such as learning how to budget, save, and invest in their futures, so that they can thrive. Safety and respect are fundamental rights. We stand with survivors and call for a world where every girl and woman is free from violence. Our programs give girls the tools, language, and community to know their worth and speak up.

Yet we can't do it alone. Together, we need to foster a culture where every young person, regardless of gender, honors and respects the boundaries, dignity, and humanity of each individual.

Today, September 10, marks World Su***de Prevention Day, a pivotal moment during National Su***de Prevention Month (September) to focus on youth mental health.

According to the CDC, an astounding 53% of high-school-aged girls report persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness. Educating young people on how to navigate these overwhelming emotions, and empowering them to seek help before reaching a crisis point, is life-saving work.

At Girls Inc. of NYC, we believe the work starts long before a crisis occurs. Through our Mind Body Matters program, we meet students where they are, building resilience through four essential pillars:
🧠 Mindfulness to de-escalate stress
🧘‍♀️ Movement to release somatic tension
🎨 Creativity to process complex emotions
🤝 Connection so no girl ever feels alone

By teaching girls to honor both their minds and bodies, we equip them with the coping skills, confidence, and community needed to break through isolation and thrive.
