The 2026 Disability Pride Parade is on Sunday, October 18! CIDNY will once again be marching in the parade and we would like to invite you to march with us and support people with disabilities throughout NYC.

You do not have to march in the parade to support CIDNY or the disability community. You can cheer along the parade route, visit CIDNY’s table in Union Square, or even support us with a donation at https://www.cidny.org/donation/.

Join us during National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) for CIDNY's October CAN meeting.

Part 1 (4 p.m. – 5 p.m.): A Workplace Accommodation Clinic where participants will have the opportunity to discuss the process for obtaining an accommodation at work with CIDNY staff members and legal experts. Those who come in person will also have the opportunity to speak with staff one-on-one. Refreshments will be served!

Part 2 (5 p.m. – 6 p.m.): A presentation from CIDNY's General Counsel Arthur Schwartz on what accommodations are covered under the ADA, remarks from elected officials on what their offices are doing to promote employment for people with disabilities, and a Q&A Session.

Featuring guests:

* NYC Councilmember Shirley Aldebol
* Assemblymember Phil Steck
* State Senator Patricia Fahy

This event is hybrid with the option to attend in-person at CIDNY’s Manhattan office or online via Zoom.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). Did you know that in October 2022, the labor force participation rate for disabled adults was 38.7% vs 77.1% for nondisabled adults? Or that Disabled workers earn 66 cents for every $1 made by those without a disability? (Source: AAPD)

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and CIDNY is celebrating during our CAN meeting. Participants will have the opportunity to attend a presentation on reasonable accommodations in the workplace, as well as hear their legislators speak about some of the work they are doing to ensure that people with disabilities are able to obtain and retain gainful employment. Participants will also have the chance to speak with staff about seeking workplace accommodations. The first hour, 4 p.m. – 5 p.m., will be in person only. The Zoom portion will begin at 5 p.m. and last until 6 p.m. We hope you can join us on October 21.

Disability Night Out is a program/event that aims to help make sure dining is accessible to all. They do this through events nationwide where people with disabilities dine out and share their feedback. Please note this is not a CIDNY-run event. The next event is scheduled for October 10, 2026. From their website:

Disability Night Out is a community night out, a collective action, and a real-world access check, all at once. People with disabilities, their families, and allies dine out together nationwide. Aim to be at the table between 6 and 9 p.m., your local time. Pick a restaurant, show up, and tell us what happened.
