The exchange was a valuable opportunity to network and discuss current human rights challenges, the role of international mechanisms, and the work of human rights defenders around the world.

A warm thank you to all for sharing your time and insights with ISHR ๐Ÿค

๐Ÿ“Welcome to Geneva, HRDAPers!

This week marks the beginning of the in-person phase of ISHRโ€™s flagship Human Rights Defender Advocacy Programme. Over the coming days, 12 human rights defenders from around the world will engage in intensive training, meet with experts, and advocate directly before international human rights mechanisms.

This yearโ€™s programme focuses on racial justice and democratic backsliding, supporting defenders working on the frontlines to strengthen their advocacy and amplify the voices of their communities.

We are delighted to welcome this yearโ€™s cohort to Geneva and look forward to the weeks ahead โœจ

โ“In the context of rising authoritarianism, how do human rights defenders live, resist and thrive? What lessons can we draw from racial justice movements and historically marginalised and excluded communities? What strategies of resistance by historically marginalised groups might prove useful in the context of a democratic backslide?

๐Ÿ”ฅ Join us at this side event about defending rights in unequal democracies and hear some responses!

Held during the 20th anniversary of the Human Rights Council, this event - featuring participant Manisha Meem Nipun among the speakers - will analyse the links between systemic discrimination and democratic backsliding.
