These positions will run from the beginning of the Spring 2021 semester in January and finish at the end of the Fall 2021 semester in December. The application will be open until Friday, 12/4 at 5pm. Decolonizing Wellness - A Community Healing Space
*Wednesday November 18, 11:40am-1pm*

Join Advocates for Asian American Health (AAAH) and facilitators, Lo'An Nguyen and Steven Wakabayashi, for an afternoon centered on self-care, recharging, and community healing. *RSVP on Engage* for the Zoom link!

This session will include:
- Guided meditation (centering and breathing exercises)
- Reading of a passage and reflection on mindfulness and self-compassion
- Creating a shared space to reconnect on sense of self
- Q&A/open discussion

Please arrive on time to ensure there is adequate time for all these activities and allow everyone a chance to fully participate in the meditation and discussion.

Topics during the lecture include:
1. The importance of data disaggregation in Asian American health
2. Current research (opportunities and barriers) relating to Asian American health
3. How COVID-19 has and continues to affect Asian American communities

Here's a report out of UCLA that shows some of the major effects of COVID-19 on the Asian American labor force, as well as policy recommendations for economic relief:

The analysis used data from California and New York to better understand the nature and magnitude of the economic disruption.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Student Exchange Visitor Program announced modifications for the Fall 2020 semester. Specifically, these changes would affect the ability of nonimmigrant F-1 and M-1 students to remain in the United States should their classes be fully online.

The Black and Latinx Student Caucus (BLSC) at Mailman has posted an open letter to the Columbia public health leadership and community. Please take the time to read it.

Our e-board has signed and we hope that current students and alumni do too. The Asian American Movement grew from the work of Black Power radicals and thinkers. Columbia must do more to support its students. Racism is a public health crisis.
