En 2024, la Tierra experimentó un calor extremo, lo que lo marcó como el año más caluroso registrado en nuestra historia. Meet Anthony Kern, a legislator in the House of Representatives. While Arizona faces some of the worst consequences of climate change, like endless drought and extreme heat that is killing people, Kern is using his power to introduce bills like SB1195. This bill would make it illegal to use public money (like our taxes) on climate solutions! SB1195 states that ‘public entities’ like city council, may not spend public money (aka our tax dollars) to promote, advocate or plan any of the following:

REDUCING GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS OR TRACKING AND COLLECTING OF 20 ANY INFORMATION OR DATA FOR DETERMINING CONSUMPTION-BASED EMISSIONS.

REDUCING OR REPLACING MOTOR VEHICLE TRAVEL WITH WALKING, BIKING, 13 OR PUBLIC TRANSIT.

FURTHERING MARXIST IDEOLOGIES, INCLUDING STAKEHOLDER CAPITALISM.

Conoce a Anthony Kern, legislador de la Cámara de Representantes. Mientras Arizona se enfrenta a algunas de las peores consecuencias del cambio climático, como la sequía interminable y el calor extremo que está matando a la gente, Kern utiliza su poder para presentar proyectos de ley como el SB1195. A recent ProPublica study suggested the Phoenix region will be among the country’s least-habitable cities by 2050. With record breaking temperatures and deaths caused by extreme heat, you would think legislatures would take this seriously, after all it is and will affect our economy! Instead,they’re more focused on how they can take advantage of the resources the Sonora desert offers, like selling indigenous land to the highest corporate bidder to mine minerals, sacrificing the people and the future of this land just for $$$. That’s why you we Arizona HATES the Earth because people in power aren’t doing anything about it while people are screaming for help.

Un reciente estudio de ProPublica sugiere que la región de Phoenix será una de las ciudades menos habitables del país en 2050. Con temperaturas récord y muertes causadas por el calor extremo, uno pensaría que las legislaturas se tomarían esto en serio, ¡después de todo afecta y afectará a nuestra economía! The Climate Resilience Pathways program is a program of the Phoenix Environmental Justice Coalition & Working Families Party AZ that seeks to support frontline BIPOC communities in accessing the Inflation Reduction Act funds. It is a pilot program that will assist and mentor community organizations and leaders to develop IRA demo projects in their community. The program will start with mentoring five community groups in creating, developing and building to fruition climate projects that increase the resiliency of their neighborhoods. By the end of the 10 month pilot program, the five organizations will have a climate resilience proposal created through a coalition with five different projects across the city. We hope to begin in March, the proposal will need to be turned in by November. We are currently looking for the right candidates for this program. The right candidates will be BIPOC/ frontline led, have some experience in the environmental sector and/or with these types of projects and have the capacity to attend biweekly meetings and finish work in between meetings. We are actively seeking funding from funders to pay groups who can make this approximately 10 month commitment, however we currently have at a minimum $15,000 for selected participants. El programa Climate Resilience Pathways es un programa de la Phoenix Environmental Justice Coalition & Working Families Party AZ que pretende apoyar a las comunidades BIPOC de primera línea a acceder a los fondos de la Ley de Reducción de la Inflación. Se trata de un programa piloto que asistirá y tutelará a organizaciones y líderes comunitarios para desarrollar proyectos de demostración de la IRA en su comunidad. El programa empezará con el asesoramiento a cinco grupos comunitarios para crear, desarrollar y llevar a buen término proyectos climáticos que aumenten la resistencia de sus barrios. To the End follows four extraordinary young women of color who work together to defend their generation's right to a future and lead the movement behind the most sweeping climate change legislation in U.S. history.

After the screening, we’ll connect with the frontline women & nonbinary climate justice leaders of color in the Phoenix Environmental Justice Coalition to hear about their current work and the exciting Inflation Reduction Act/ Climate Resiliency projects they are working to create right here in our backyard.

Phoenix Environmental Justice Coalition is committed to language justice. This will be a bilingual event. There will be Spanish translation in the movie caption and during the conversation after.
