ICYMI - Everyday stress can take a toll on heart health, especially as we age.
A new Detroit Free Press article highlights Wayne State University research on how daily stress may affect high blood pressure and heart health among older African Americans. It also shares the story of Melvin Bishop, 69, who learned to manage his blood pressure by reducing stress, exercising regularly, taking his medication and making healthier food choices.
His advice is simple but powerful: pause, take a deep breath and choose how to respond.
Stress is a far less studied cause of heart disease than diabetes and high cholesterol and too often dismissed as a reality of daily life. The WSU study hopes to correct that.
