⭐️ ONE bill ⭐️ SAME mission ⭐️ UNITED for CHANGE ⭐️
Let’s stop making excuses for an antiquated law that defines our pets as mere “property”—a definition that fuels a long list of critical and heartbreaking issues. It’s time for reformation, grounded in the best interest of our companions, recognizing them as what they truly are: valued family members. This change has the potential to transform protections, welfare, and respect for pets and their families nationwide. The bill is here, and it’s time we all UNITE to fix a law that is long overdue and fails to reflect today’s society.
We know how much our pets mean to us and the intelligence they possess. 95% of pet owners consider their pets to be family. Scientists continue to uncover the profound, unbreakable bonds we share with them and the unconditional love they give us throughout their much too-short lives.
Yet, under U.S. law, our treasured companions are still considered “property”—no different than a chair or an iPad. My dog could never be replaced, yet many state laws barely give him more value than a kitchen table.
How can the companions who help us survive and thrive in countless ways lack basic national standards enforceable by law for:
🐾 Pet care provider liability
🐾 Humane shelter conditions
🐾 Puppy mill and breeding restrictions
🐾 Penalties for pet theft and related abuse that might actually prevent the crimes. This is our responsibility. These are our family members, and we must take a stand and realize the depths of this animal welfare crisis our country has been feeding for quite some time. Our pets love us selflessly, expecting nothing in return (except maybe a belly rub and a chicken treat).
Let’s fix this. Let’s give every pet and their family the safety and security of being legally valued as much as they are in our hearts.
