Happy from Grand Street! Rose Gruening founded Grand Street Settlement in 1916 to support families of immigrants arriving in New York City seeking housing, jobs, and the American dream.

Today, Grand Street's multicultural makeup is what makes our programs special. From our Dominican and Albanian preschoolers in the Bronx, to our famous Tai Chi and Zumba classes for Seniors on the Lower East Side, to our Caribbean and East Asian participants throughout Brooklyn, Grand Street continues to celebrate the incredible contributions, culture, and joy that immigrants bring to our country and community. ❣️

This , we're showing you some of the adventures our JUMP participants and mentors enjoyed this year!
⚑ Little JUMP learned about clean energy at the Liberty Science Center
🎳 Big JUMP proved their athletic skills at the bowling alley, archery range, and (indoor) racetrack
🌷Big JUMP captured the beauty of the natural world in their photography challenge
πŸ™Œ Little JUMP put teamwork to the test at the Area53 laser tag arena
🎒 Big and Little JUMP wrapped up another incredible year of adventures with their mentors, with trips to the Coney Island classic Luna Park NYC and the famous coaster park, Six Flags!

For nearly three decades, Grand Street's JUMP program has enabled hundreds of youth from the Lower East Side to take adventures across New York City for experiences they may not otherwise be able to access.

Thank you to our volunteer mentors for making this incredible program possible. We can't wait to see our mentors and mentees next season. Have a great summer, JUMP!

It's the last in May, so we're spotlighting how Grand Street's programs celebrated Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

πŸ₯Ÿ Five teams, five different Asian or Asian-American cuisines, five traditional dishes, one culinary showdown. This year's AAPI Cook-Off contestants honored the richness and diversity of Asian cultures and cuisines. Thank you to our elite panel of judges, including David Kramer (Board Member, The Sylvia Center), Jae Lee (Chef & Owner of Nowon), Arlene Spiegel (President, Arlene Spiegel & Associates), Georgette Farkas (Restaurant Owner & Event Producer), and Miadaly Camilo (The Sylvia Center). Congratulations to all our young chefs!

🍜 Congratulations to the graduates of the Baruch Elder Services Team NORC English class! Participants and the BEST team hosted a potluck featuring home-cooked Asian dishes with older adults from our other senior programs.

πŸ‰ Grand Street staff celebrated AAPI Month through a delicious Taste of AAPI Culture event, featuring food and drinks from various neighborhood Asian restaurants, and enjoying a lively lion dance performance.

The City and State are making incredible, historic investments to achieve universal child care. The next steps must include strengthening the workforce pipeline with real incentives and paying teachers better wages. This is the way to build a system that is sustainable and meets the needs of parents.

CEO Robert Cordero and fellow child care advocates spoke with Madina Toure of POLITICO about the systemic nuances that must be addressed as the City pioneers universal child care.
