News and headlines for July 29 - August 4, 2023

Waco, TX, police have once again shot a dog; this time, a dog who lived in a homeless encampment. According to a city spokesperson, “one round was fired at the animal… the dog ran away and was later taken by the Animal Control Unit. ‘It received care and is expected to live.’” But “witnesses at the scene disputed the police department’s version of events, telling [the local news station that] the dog was shot five times and they, not animal control, found the bleeding dog and saved his life.” In June, Waco police also shot and killed a 10-year-old labrador retriever and tasered another dog after a dispatcher entered the wrong address about a possible burglary. According to a family friend, the officers were defiant, with one of them saying, “this kind of thing happens.” In Waco, it happens alot.

Join us on August 18 for our pet food drive event from 9 AM to 5 PM! We are coming together to support our furry friends in need. Throughout the day, we have various topics and activities lined up to make this event informative and enjoyable.

Local community pet owners will have the chance to support our continued efforts to raise awareness and save countless animals from being abandoned or surrendered to kill-shelters.
