The Parthenon/Acropolis Sculptures are not isolated works of art. They are an integral part of the Parthenon, an integral part of the Acropolis, one of the greatest monuments of ancient Hellas/Greece and one of the most important symbols of human civilisation.

It was the dismemberment of a living monument: sculptures were detached, architectural elements were removed, and parts of the Acropolis monuments were damaged in the process.

The so-called firman that Elgin claimed to possess has never been produced in its original form. Its interpretation and legal validity remain deeply disputed.
In any event, no foreign authority had the moral right to steal Hellenic cultural property, dismantle the most important monuments of the Greek people, and remove parts of them.
The Acropolis Sculptures belong to Hellas/Greece because they were created in Athens, formed part of the Acropolis monuments, and express the history, identity and cultural continuity of the Greek people.
Their rightful place is beside the sculptures that remain in Athensโnot separated from their architectural and historical context.
For Greece, for Hellenism and for the whole world, this is not simply a question of ownership. It is a question of identity, historical memory, cultural integrity and justice.
The removal of the sculptures was an act of theft and partial destruction. Their continued possession and display by the British Museum for almost two centuries represents the ongoing retention and exhibition of cultural property acquired through that act.
